Job Description

Issues written objections based on plan review to the design professionals (such as engineers and architects) and works with them to resolve the objections to obtain approval from the Division.
Examines plans for compliance with various codes, laws and regulations.
Verifies calculations in plans.
Communicates with other stakeholders to coordinate work activities, including attending meetings and providing expert knowledge in building code.
Inspects completed projects on behalf of New York City (NYC) DOB as per the School Construction Authority (SCA)/DOB Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Assists in the Department of Buildings (DOB) Permits and DOB Job Close-Out phases by reviewing relevant documents and directing relevant personnel.
Researches solutions to building codes and zoning issues and creates reports.
Performs related tasks.

The SCA’s Building Code Compliance Division (BCC ) p romotes the safety and welfare of the New York City students, staff, and the general public by ensuring compliance with NYC Codes and Zoning regulations. Enhancing quality by providing technical support and ongoing training seminars to SCA Construction Management. BCC carries out the mission of the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding through the highly qualified professional staff of plan examiners and inspectors. Facilitating efficient processing of Buildings Department plan reviews, permits, and sign-offs to achieve timely completion of school projects.

The Plan Examiner is responsible for performing technical and administrative work that will assist in the examination and review of design plans to determine compliance with building, zoning and other pertinent codes, local laws and regulations.Job Description

Salary Range:
Subject to the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the appointment rate for any newly hired employee, or employees with less than two years of active City or SCA service, shall be 15% less than the applicable incumbent rate or step.

NYS Professional Engineer or NYS Registered Architect - NYS Department of EducationWork Experience
Four years of post-licensure full-time experience in Architectural or Engineering building design or construction; two years of which must have been in working with construction documents, drawings, and New York City Building Code and New York City Zoning Resolution.
