      Job Overview

      This position is working with the Transportation Review Team within the Development Services Department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of standard Customer Service best practices. Experience in Call Center, Customer Relationship Management software and comfort with face-to-face interactions as a big plus. Must be able to make quick and critical decisions within a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. This position will require the individual to correspond/interact with various managers/leaders from other sections and departments and occasionally with commissioner aides so the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing is a must. This position will manage the team’s review logs and aid in reviews.

      Job Distinctions

      Reviews site plans that may include flood areas. Performs leadership duties reviewing and researching zoning history documents, analyzing data, and researching records to ensure compliance with applicable land development codes, regulations, and comprehensive plan along with clerical support functions. May also provide backup and support to the sign regulation program.

      Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

      • Administrative support for the Transportation Review Section.
      • Tracks the status of zoning and land development applications, and
        Transportation Related Administrative Reviews requests as they go through the development review process.
      • Verify completeness of transportation review related documents for zoning and site/subdivision development applications.
      • Functions as lead worker in the research, reviewing, and coordination of transportation, site access and planning matters.
      • Verifies and researches land descriptions, easements, right of way ownership and jurisdiction utilizing zoning maps, legal descriptions, software and other related files.
      • Provides assistance to customers and responds to inquiries/complaints.
      • Maintain all documents for both the master file and electronic file.
      • Coordinate meetings and correspondence between internal agencies, external agencies and applicants.
      • Other related duties as assigned.


      Job Specifications

      • Knowledge of State and County Laws, ordinances, and regulations governing transportation, planning and zoning matters.
      • Knowledge of general office policies, practices and procedures
      • Knowledge of transportation, land development and construction terminology.
      • Ability to interact with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
      • Ability to answer questions and resolve problem situations or refer to appropriate office.
      • Able to read and interpret maps, plans, aerials and other related documents.
      • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
      • Ability to participate effectively in the formulation of departmental policies and procedures.

      • Ability to plan, organize, set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task.
      • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

      Physical Requirements
      • Indoor office work, requires sitting for extended period, occasionally noisy.

      Work Category
      • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

      Minimum Qualifications Required

      • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university; AND
      • Three years of public contact experience involving zoning, planning, engineering, real estate, or legal matters;
      OR
      • An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
      • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
