Job Description

- Coordinates the preventative maintenance and repair activities of vehicles, to include the installation of electronic equipment, assigned to the Patrol Division with the appropriate Department or vendor and issues equipment (i.e., radios, shotguns, etc.) to uniformed personnel in the Little Rock Police Department in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Serves as substation liaison and point of contact for outside contractors and other personnel from City Departments relative to cleaning, building, and maintenance services of respective substations to include the scheduling and escorting of personnel throughout building.
- Maintains hard copy and computerized inventory control system to check out and ensure return of all equipment issued to uniform personnel in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures; reports decommissioned and asset transfers to appropriate personnel in compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Transports or arranges towing of vehicles requiring repairs or maintenance to the Department of Fleet Services or outside vendor; follows up to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with Departmental policies, procedures and guidelines; verifies vehicle repairs were performed by performing road tests and quality control checks on vehicles.
- Receives repair requests for vehicles and electronic equipment, including computers, cameras, printers, computer drives and display devices in vehicles assigned to the Patrol Division; troubleshoots problems or issues and performs minor repairs on electronic equipment and vehicle malfunctions or coordinates repairs with appropriate vendor, Department of Information Technology and Department of Fleet Services.
- Completes daily status report for vehicles at assigned substation to include vehicle service status, expected return date of vehicles out of service and related vehicle information; submits to substation command staff.
- Reviews spreadsheet of maintenance status to ensure vehicles and equipment are repaired and maintained in a timely manner; follows-up to check status of vehicle and equipment; monitors and maintains the vehicle and radio inventories for Police Divisions to ensure radios are maintained to appropriate channel access.
- Serves as backup to the Police Automotive/Equipment Maintenance Coordinator – Senior by attending pre-bid meetings to answer questions and provide information regarding the standardization of Police vehicle specifications with the Department of Fleet Services staff and prospective bidders.
- Advises Department of Fleet Services of vehicle repairs needed and the installation of equipment in vehicles; performs road tests and quality control checks on vehicles to ensure vehicle repairs were done and vehicle is in operable condition; verifies vehicle repairs are performed as requested.
- Transports damaged police radios to the radio repair shop and picks up or arranges pickup of repaired radios; maintains inventory of replacement accessory parts for radios.
- Maintains an inventory of printed materials and various Departmental forms and cleaning supplies and associated equipment for assigned location; orders materials, cleaning supplies and equipment as required; verifies orders upon delivery to ensure quantity and quality of items delivered; compares contents to invoices, ensuring appropriate amount delivered; notified appropriate personnel of discrepancies; forwards invoices to appropriate personnel for processing and payment.
- Serves as substation liaison for all equipment repair requests and office maintenance projects; submits work orders and contacts vendors and Building Services Division to schedule maintenance and repairs for the substation.
- Provides assistance to appropriate personnel with the annual Departmental inventory at respective substations; conducts inventory of equipment and submits report to appropriate personnel; investigates and reports discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
- Serves as backup during the absence of other Automotive/Equipment Coordinators and the Police Automotive/Equipment Maintenance Coordinator – Senior at other substations.
- Answers questions and provides information to assigned Divisions regarding vehicle status, radios, equipment and related inquiries.
- Operates a computer with database, spreadsheet, and word processing software in the performance of essential job functions.
- Operates a City pool automobile in the performance of essential job functions.
- Knowledge of inventory control methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of hard copy and computer filing and record-keeping systems.
- Knowledge of computer fundamentals and business software, including database, spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Skill in the operation of a computer, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, or related software.
- Skill in the operation of hand and light power tools.
- Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission vehicle.
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment installed in vehicles.
- Ability to coordinate the repair of vehicles or equipment.
- Ability to conduct research and make recommendations for new electronic equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain hard copy and computer filing and record-keeping systems.
- Ability to maintain a computerized inventory control system.
- Ability to maintain a record-keeping system.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThese knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school, one (1) year of demonstrated experience in the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of vehicle electronic equipment to include inventory control or related are and; one (1) year of computer experience.
