      What We Do:

      OhioMHAS operates regional psychiatric hospitals in six locations across the state that operate 365/24/7. Our specialized facilities provide short-term, intensive treatment to patients in both inpatient and community-supported environments. We also deliver comprehensive care to patients committed through the criminal justice system.

      Assigned shift will depend on Unit 2 contract/current canvass/Days & Hours May Vary According to Operational needs.

      Police Officers get a $1.25 shift differential pay for 2nd and 3rd shift full time, permanent employees.

      **Police Officer 1 pay range 8 ($21.72 - $26.44/hour) receive OPOTA within one year of hire

      **Police Officer 2 pay range 10 (25.00 - $31.64/hour) has current OPOTA

      What You Will Do:

      Maintains the safety & security of the unit environment. Serves & protects clients, visitors & employees of NOPH: patrols grounds & buildings on foot & in car; protects lives of clients, visitors & employees; checks property for open doors, gates & windows; checks for fires & other hazards; enforces laws, rules & regulations; checks identity of unknown persons on grounds & nature of their business; checks vehicle permits; issues traffic tickets as necessary; travels to community sites when needed. Member of multi-disciplinary treatment team which provides care & treatment to psychiatric patients who display a variety of behaviors as part of their illness.

      Assists with & conducts investigating complaints incidents/accidents: assist in conducting criminal investigations & accident investigations; makes inquires & documents finding with general public regarding sensitive issues; takes pictures of crime accident scene; interviews witnesses & victims; completes incident & police report, assist local law enforcement agencies & Highway Patrol with criminal & other investigations.

      Performs variety of public service functions to further ensure the safety of clients & employees; performs security duty at special events; responds to emergencies & code assists; escorts, protects & assists visitors; assists nursing, medical or direct care personnel in handling/restraining & transporting aggressive clients when requested; checks patients on grounds after curfew & returns clients to assigned ward/units; conducts searches for lost clients & instructs staff in search procedures; assists other police officers in apprehending, arresting & processing criminal violators; files affidavits; serves warrants & subpoenas; appears in court & testifies in criminal proceedings.

      Performs routine administrative duties related to police work: keeps daily patrol log; writes incident reports as needed; answers telephone; relays messages via radio & telephone; files & types reports as assigned; assists local law enforcement officers with client discharges & admissions; transports clients/employees to courts; assists in disaster drills & problems; attends all mandated training & seminars (e.g., safety & fire, CPR, first aid).

      Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading & writing English vocabulary; valid driver's license. Probationary period is one year.

      -Or possession of certificate having successfully completed approved basic peace officer training program or completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer per Section 109.78 (D) of Ohio revised code for developmental disabilities & mental health facility employees. Probationary period is one year.

      Note: Applicant must be able to successfully perform Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program (OPOTC) Fitness Testing Entry Standards for New Recruits.
