      The Police Services Representative I is a non-sworn position within the Police Department that provides administrative and field support across various divisions. Responsibilities vary based on the area of assignment, including responding to public inquiries, aiding in investigations, managing property and evidence, supporting community outreach, enforcing traffic laws, processing permits, and assisting with crime prevention initiatives.

      The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of police procedures, laws, and investigative techniques while demonstrating strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

      Future Salary Increases
      4% - July 2025
      3% - July 2026


      Education and Experience :

      Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position can be considered as qualifying. A typical combination includes:

      Graduation from high school supplemented by some completed coursework from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, criminology, administration of justice, or a related field.
      AND
      Two years of experience working with the public on an individual or group basis including some experience working in a law enforcement support position. Experience interviewing crime victims and taking reports in a law enforcement setting or related environment is highly desirable.

      Special Requirements:

      • Valid Class C California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment in this position.
      • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs, including emergency call-ins, overtime, call-backs, shift work, nights, holidays, and weekends.
      • Must be able to successfully pass a Police Department pre-employment screening process.

      Assessment Process:

      Applicants must provide specific and complete details about their qualifications. Based on the information provided in the application and other required materials, the most qualified candidates will be invited to take part in the examination process, which may include a written exam, performance test, oral interview, and/or other assessment methods.

      The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process. Candidates will be notified of any changes before the related examination step.

      Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for this recruitment will be placed on an eligible list, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

      Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

      Appointment:

      Employment offers are conditional upon the successful completion of a background check and a medical examination conducted by the City’s designated physician at the City’s expense. The background check will include fingerprinting, verified by the State of California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Certain positions may require a more extensive background check. Medical examinations assess an individual’s ability to meet the physical requirements of the position. Additionally, all new hires and employees appointed to safety-sensitive classifications must undergo a drug screening.

      An appointee will serve a 12-month probationary period.
