      About the National Constitution Center

      The National Constitution Center is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to teaching about the Constitution. Located on Philadelphia’s historic Independence Mall, steps from where the Constitution was drafted and signed, it serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate, fulfilling its congressional charter “to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.”

      Position Summary

      The Porter performs custodial maintenance, including, but not limited to, meeting room and general housekeeping tasks. The Porter provides a safe and clean atmosphere for patrons of the Center, maintaining established standards for appearance and cleanliness

      Responsibilities and Duties

      • Perform routine cleaning of all building spaces
      • Ensure all building restrooms are cleaned, sanitized, and stocked on a regular basis
      • Remove snow and other debris from Center property
      • Transport, set up, break down, and install items including, but not limited to, staging, decks, and equipment for events
      • Ensure the proper care and safe use of cleaning supplies and equipment, including, but not limited to, vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, and carpet shampooing machines
      • Clean, mop, scrub, and sanitize floors and other surfaces
      • Refinish, wax, and polish all floor and wall surfaces in common building areas
      • Ensure that all common building areas are clean, sanitary, and free of trash and debris
      • Perform other duties as assigned

      Qualifications

      • High school diploma or equivalent required
      • 2 – 3 years relevant experience required
      • Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays is required

      Physical Demands

      • Frequent standing and walking required
      • Must be able to work at elevated heights
      • Must be able to lift heavy equipment (50 pounds or more) on a frequent basis
      • May be required to work in a kneeling, stooping, bending, or prone position for a prolonged period of time on a frequent basis
