      This position is in the Inventory Management/Mail Services (DMV Mail Room), at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, SC.

      Responsibilities of a Postal Technician

      • Open, sort and verify all incoming mail from all 66 DMV Branch offices within the State of South Carolina as well as USPS. Verify correct information on enclosed mail checklist making corrections as needed. Uses extreme confidentiality and follows SCDMV Policies and Procedures to ensure all PII is protected. Delivers and picks up mail to each floor - twice daily.
      • Records and routes all outbound FEDEX, USPS, UPS and CMS mail and packages accordingly. Ensures that all mailing addresses have pertinent information. Provides the sender tracking information via email if necessary. Notifies management team immediately if there are issues with FEDEX, USPS, UPS and CMS or if items were not delivered/picked up.
      • Operates USPS postage meter machine as well as folder inserter machine.
      • Assists DMV employees with generating outgoing labels and provides tracking numbers via email as requested.
      • Sorts and preps work for Document Management team.
      • Fills in for courier when absent.
      • Performs other departmental duties as required by supervisor.

      Minimum Requirements

      • A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
      Agency Requirements

      • Must complete a nationwide criminal background check to include finger printing.

      Additional Requirements
      • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., including but not limited to, opening and breaking down, large boxes of incoming mail, sorting and distributing to appropriate sections.
      • Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License at all times while employed.
      • Must be physically able to move full shred bins to and from secured rooms.
      • Proficient in basic computer hardware, software and other office equipment.
      • Ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently with great attention to detail.
      • Has working knowledge of pertinent SCDMV policies and regulations.
      • Ability to collect, compile and assemble information in order to establish and maintain a system whereby mail is recorded for purposes of accountability.
      • Punctuality and avoidance of excessive absences is required.
      • Must develop and maintain good working relationships with other personnel and be a team player.
      • Works under general supervision receiving and processing incoming mail from FEDEX, USPS, UPS and CMS.
      • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of the processing and delivery of received mail both internally and externally.
      • Must practice extreme confidentiality in opening and sorting incoming and outgoing mail, following all SCDMV Policies and Procedures.
      • Requires sitting in front of a computer equipment for prolonged periods of time as well as standing and walking while pushing a mail cart to deliver and pick-up outgoing mail and packages.
      • May be required to drive mail delivery van to deliver and pick up mail and packages from post office.
      • Must be able to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs. daily. May be required to work extended hours.
