The Department of Neuroscience and the Center for Brain Immunology and Glia at the University of Virginia is seeking motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate(s) to work in the Kuan Lab to study (1) lytic therapies and collateral circulation in ischemic stroke, and (2) cerebral small vessel disease and vascular dementia, both mostly using murine models.
Candidates should have the ability to work creatively and independently with minimal daily supervision. Candidates shall demonstrate a track record of planning, performing, and publishing original research, and possession of effective oral and written communication skills. Experiences in working with mouse models and supervising undergraduate students and/or technicians is preferred. Prior research experience in the two specific subjects will be highly preferred.
The Research Associate position is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A PhD degree in biomedical science (preferably in Neuroscience or Immunology).
The position will remain active until filled. This is an exempt-level, benefitted position. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A pre-employment health screening is required. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA
Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.
