      Full-time, 35 hours per week

      Fixed-term contract, ending 28 February 2026.

      A postdoctoral research associate position is available to work on analysis of mechanisms underlying the generation of haematopoietic stem cells and endothelial-to-haematopoietic transition (EHT). You will use embryonic aorta-gonad-mesonephros (AGM) cultures and ES cells to explore effects of mechanical cues and signalling microenvironment. The study is built on long-standing expertise of Medvinsky’s group in the area of developmental haematopoiesis (https://www.ed.ac.uk/regenerative-medicine/research/alexander-medvinsky). Micropatterned substrates will be employed to enhance precision and manipulation of culture conditions (collaboration with Dr G. Blin’ group “Quantitative Biology of Pattern Formation”, https://www.ed.ac.uk/regenerative-medicine/research/guillaume-blin).

      You are encouraged to apply if you have expertise in developmental biology, cell signalling, cell culture and imaging.

      The Opportunity:

      Our laboratory aims to understand mechanisms underlying development of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), using human embryonic AGM region and differentiating ES cells.

      The post holder will work closely with other members of our laboratory, with technical and bioinformatics support.

      Your skills and attributes for success:

      • Expertise in developmental biology, confocal imaging, molecular biology and in vitro differentiation of ES cells;
      • Highly motivated;
