Job Summary
Active engagement in and analytic support in understanding regulatory and technology trends in gas, wind, solar, and storage, competitor intelligence that effect trends for power price formation, market heat rates, and energy production volume and cleared capacity across CAISO, PJM, MISO, and NE/NY
The overall objective of this role is to develop proprietary points-of-view on power market pricing due to fundamental drivers (e.g. technology-, economic- and regulatory-driven changes) in power markets to support commercial and strategic decision-makingJob Description
Key Accountabilities
• Support Market Analytics team in development of short-term and long-term fundamental pricing point of views, resource expansion and resource cost trends.• Develop deep understanding and continuous improvement of the company’s fundamental power modeling tools through identification- and development of process efficiencies and/or software interface tools.• Develop ability to analyze market price impacts due to potential market changes to renewable penetration levels, transmission infrastructure, supply / demand balance, and market rule changes• Perform fundamental analysis to support investment decisions including capital projects and M&A activity• Develop knowledge of capacity market rules and market fundamentals to support capacity market bidding activity and other commercial decision-making• Ability and willingness to perform research and synthesize data through development or datasets and presentations related to plant retirements and new entrants, transmission status, demand and fuel price expectationsEducation, Experience, & Skill Requirements
• 1-2 years of progressive experience or any other equivalent experience and training which provides a commensurate level of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through engineering, economics , mathematics , operations research and/or statistics coursework.• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills• Deep interest in wholesale power markets and demonstrated programming capabilities to process and analyze large datasets• Experience with optimization tools including commercial programs such as MATLAB, GE-MAPS, PROMOD, PLEXOS, AURORA or similar, is a plus• Demonstrated graphical presentation, and written communication skills• Minimum education is High School Diploma or equivalencyKey Metrics
