      Job summary

      PRACTICE NURSE(12 Months Maternity Cover)

      Weds/Thurs/Friday - 25.5 hours per week with scope to increase to 33 hours per week.

      Mill Road Surgery Cambridge Enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse required to join our friendly team. We are a high achieving and busy GP training practice, working over two sites.

      Working within a nursing team to provide excellent and safe patient care.

      The applicant must be a qualified nurse. Experience in a primary care setting is preferable but not essential.

      They must be able to work in a changing environment.

      Main duties of the job

      MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIE

      Cervical cytology

      Wound care and ulcer care

      Removal of sutures

      Urinalysis

      Travel clinic

      ECGs.

      Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry

      Venepuncture

      Hypertension management

      Chaperoning

      Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings

      Requesting pathology tests for example urine culture, swabs

      NHS Health Checks.

      Potential Extended hours e.g. Flu Clinics

      Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.

      Deliver opportunistic health promotion

      Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication, on medication regimens

      Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote patients to live healthily and encourage principles of self-care

      Assess and care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds

      Support and advise women requesting information

      Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations

      Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children.

      Promote and deliver evidence-based care for patients

      Undertake home visits if required

      We are a high achieving, busy and enthusiastic GP training practice, with 3 Partners and 4 x salaried GPs working over two sites at our Mill Road Surgery and our Branch Surgery in Cherry Hinton High street.
