      Job summary

      To provide a high quality a Practice Nurse service based on the needs of the Practice population which includes treatment, screening, preventative care and patient education

      Main duties of the job

      Clinical

      • To manage patients with chronic disease, running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems
      • Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and deliver the national immunisation and vaccination schedule
      • Provide travel health advice and administer appropriate vaccinations
      • Treat patients with minor injuries
      • Provide directly and assist GPs with contraceptive services
      • Break bad news to patients/parents/carers and provide appropriate ongoing support to meet identified needs
      • Act as chaperone when required
      • Undertake health promotion to help educate patients
      • Select, carry out and interpret results of specific tests
      • To follow Infection Control principles in your day to day practice

      Administration

      • To maintain accurate patient records and enter onto the computer using agreed Read Codes
      • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care
      • To collect data and participate in regular Practice audit and research projects
      • To contribute to the preparation of any Practice development plans
      • Responsible for ordering, checking vaccinations levels and expiry dates of stock. Ensure emergency trolley and home visit bag are checked and all equipment and stock is up-to-date
      • General

      • To maintain own annual registration with the NMC

      • To maintain own continuous professional development and ensure PDP kept up-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice
      • Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and in-house clinical training sessions
      • Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time
