      Job summary

      We are looking for a practice nurse to cover maternity leave starting this summer. There may be an opportunity to make this role permanent at the end of the fixed term maternity cover contract.

      Part time preferred but would consider full time.

      Main duties of the job

      Our practice nurse team carry out wound dressings, vaccinations for adults and children including prostap/zoladex, cervical cytology, LTC management in nurse led clinics and minor illness and minor injury services all supported by our experienced HCA team.

      About us

      Busy general practice which creates a varied role. We have a large population of around 19,000 patients and are part of the Winchester and Rural South PCN.

      We have a varied skill mix with 14 GPs, 3 ANPs, paramedic and MSK practitioner, clinical pharmacist as well as our practice nurse and HCA team, all back up with a great team of admin and reception staff.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC.

      To undertake adult and childhood immunisations.

      To promote good health in travellers abroad by offering advice and information on lifestyle and immunisations (NHS only).

      To undertake cervical cytology.

      To assist General Practitioners in management of chronic diseases. i.e. diabetes, hypertension, cardiac and respiratory conditions, including health education and counselling as appropriate and to give information and advice on healthy lifestyle. Assist with family planning care and services.

      Participate in individual assigned jobs to facilitate the smooth running of the wider practice.

      To undertake wound dressings and treatments within the practice.

      To maintain accurate patient records. To participate in clinical audit programmes.

      Collaborate effectively as a team to complete tasks / emails assigned by various members of the surgery staff.

      Providing support to Health Care Assistants

      Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement by regularly reflecting on clinical practice, identifying opportunities to enhance patient care, and actively contributing to quality assurance processes and service development initiatives.

      Work proactively and flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

      • Ability to travel between main and branch site with relevant license and insurance.
      • Good standard of written and oral English language.

      Desirable

      • Experienced in cervical cytology
      • LTC qualification in either diabetes, respiratory or cardiovascular management.
      • LARC qualification (implants/coils)

      Experience

      Essential

      • Able to work with nursing team colleagues.
      • Experience dealing with vulnerable patients.

      Desirable

      • previous experience working in a GP practice or similar environment
