      Job summary

      Higham Ferrers Surgery is looking for an enthusiastic, proactive Practice Nurse to join our friendly team. This exciting opportunity would be open to part time applications to work. We serve over 6,000 patients across a Higham/ Rushden areas. We value teamwork, mutual support and a friendly working environment. We are looking for NMC registered professional, who will have Practice Nurse experience in general practice. In addition we are a learning and training practice so we will strive to support our employees to the maximum.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      • To provide assessment, treatment, screening and health education services and advice, working in accordance with set protocols, guidelines and NMC Code of Conduct.
      • To be qualified and a member of the NMC
      • To have the ability to work on own initiative, acknowledging limitations of oneself and in the delegation to others. Recognising when referral to other health professionals is needed.
      • Evaluating and adapting care using evidence based practice, in consultation with colleagues as a forum for team education, development and audit.
      • Wound management
      • Hypertension reviews
      • Routine injections as prescribed
      • Childhood and Adult immunisations, including reading and reviewing Patient Group Directives (PGDs) and Patient Specific Directives (PSDs)
      • Well Person Health Checks including Foreign Travel Counselling, NHS Health Checks, Lifestyle and New Patient Checks
      • ECGs
      • Obesity and weight/diet management
      • Chronic disease management and prevention ~ Diabetes, Hypertension, Hypothyroidism, Stroke, Epilepsy, IHD, COPD and Asthma( would be advantageous)
      • Leg ulcer management
      • Ensuring all specimens are checked and sent to laboratory as required
      • Participate in the education of students of all disciplines.
      • To be responsible for the efficient running of the treatment room and equipment and to ensure the clinical areas are at all times safe for staff and patients.
      • To adhere to strict Infection Control in line with guidelines and policies.
      • Administrative responsibilities
      • Manage clinics effectively.
      • To take personal responsibility for own personal/professional development
      • Attend and participate in practice and staff meetings as appropriate.
      • Maintain appearance and behaviour in keeping with a member of the nursing profession and in accordance with codes of conduct.
      • Support and co-ordiante health promotion campaigns, i.e. flu, no smoking, healthy lifestyles, etc
      • Treatment Room supplies and equipment
      • To be aware of Infection Control
