- The Practice Nurse (PN) is a vital role in providing care to our whole patient population.
- New patient health checks and NHS health checks
- Urine testing/analysis
- Blood pressure monitoring and measurement
- ECG
- Height and weight measurement
- Removal of sutures
- Taking of pathology samples for analysis (blood, sputum, urine etc)
- NHS travel vaccinations
- Assessment, management and treatment of conditions within competence and as delegated
- Wound care/dressings/tissue viability
- Ulcer care including Doppler assessment
- Scalds and burns management
- Management of skin disorders
- Routine immunisations Children/Adults and Pregnancy
- Condition specific injections (B12, depo etc)
- Nebuliser use and care
- Chronic disease management (asthma, diabetes, hypertension etc)
- Health and lifestyle advice
- Support and advice for patients in managing their health conditions
- Contraception and sexual health advice
- Medicals
- Chaperoning
- Assisting minor surgery clinics
- Assisting gynaecology clinics
- Make accurate and contemporaneous records of all patient encounters in accordance with practice records protocols and coding protocols.
- Accurately label and document patient samples and submit for collection and analysis.
- Contribute to nursing team record keeping (clinical, administrative, health and safety related records.
- Maintain skills in using patient appointment system.
- The PN will be aware of and comply with Stonehouse Health Clinics Health and Safety Policy. This will include:
- Minimising risk to self and others in the workplace.
- Identifying and reporting hazards/risks and contributing to control measures.
- Adhering to all relevant policies including infection control and management of the cold chain.
- Contributing to keeping the working area and patient areas tidy and free from hazards.
- Using protective equipment and clothing provided and in accordance with the Stonehouse Health Clinic policy.
- Applying spill control and decontamination policies.
- Ensuring sufficient supplies of all cleansing and infection control materials.
- Attending regular health and safety training.
- Be the practice clinical lead for Infection Control, engage in countywide infection control updates, ensure the practice infection control policy is kept up to date and carry out regular IPC audits as per the policy requirement.
- Recording of fridge temperatures and ensuring and variations are reported in line with the cold chain policy.
- Stock rotation according to date and maintain appropriate records and discarding out of date stock in line with practice protocols.
- Prepare clinical areas between patients in accordance with infection control procedure including cleaning surfaces and equipment.
- Dispose of all clinical waste/sharps in accordance with infection control and equipment maintenance policies.
- Take action to manage spills or decontaminate affected areas.
- Check stock in all clinical rooms.
- Order replacement stock and restock clinical rooms.
- Order vaccines to maintain stock levels and store according to practice cold chain and storage policies.
- Maintain accurate stock records, including liaison with the Operations Manager by providing order confirmations and delivery notes for invoice checking.
- Consider sustainability and economy when ordering and ensure supply usage is economic and cost effective.
- Contribute to care and maintenance of equipment.
- Organise repaid and regular maintenance and calibration of equipment, including equipment maintenance/checking/calibration log.
- Provide services to the practices patient population to the highest possible standard.
- Work to agreed standards, monitor, maintain the standard of care offered and act if standards are not met (self or others)
- Contribute to clinical governance activities/clinic audit to ensure continual improvement of service delivery.
- Contribute to complaints responses/reviews, significant event, peer review and other shared learning activities.
- Support and mentor staff in training.
- Support the performance of team members including giving and receiving effective feedback.

We have an exciting opportunity at Stonehouse Health Clinic for a full time practice nurse to join our small and friendly team. We are looking for a dynamic nurse who wants to make a difference to the lives of our patients by providing a high quality service.
Job share would be considered for the right candidate/s.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a registered nurse with existing skills in chronic disease management, child immunisations, cervical screening, contraception, wound care and general practice nursing duties.
Previous experience in Primary Care would be advantageous.
About us
We are a small sole partner GP practice with just under 3,500 patients based in the centre of Stonehouse, a small rural town.
Alongside the GP Partner we have a regular sessional GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioners with a Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistant. We have a small administrative team supporting our reception and administrative needs.
Stonehouse Health Clinic is part of the Severn Health Primary Care Network in the Stroud and Berkeley Vale Locality.
The Practice Nurse Role will be based at Stonehouse Health Clinic covering Monday-Friday and a range of hours from 07:30-18:30. Working pattern to be discussed and agreed.
