      Position Title Pre-Admissions Advisor

      About the Position

      The Pre-Admissions Advisor assists students to develop academic and career plans consistent with their interests and aspirations and to utilize available resources to achieve academic success. The Advisor focuses on supporting students who have an interest in or who plan to enter Woodring programs, but who are not yet ready or eligible to apply.

      Job responsibilities include:

      • Academic Advising
        • Bridge advising related to pre-program, General University Requirements, prerequisites, and application and other non-program/major advising
        • Respond to general inquiries, one-on-one advising, drop-in advising, group information sessions, group sessions in collaboration with Woodring College of Education/Western Washington University programs and resource offices
        • Collaborate with departments to identify meaningful pre-program coursework for all types of students (Masters in Teaching, Direct Transfer Agreements, first year students, career changers, etc.)
        • Coordinate with the DRR program coordinator to develop unique advising and resources for students participating in Woodring Pathway Programs.
        • Facilitate Woodring programing for incoming university students such as: Transitions, Fall Advising, orientation.
        • Coordinate advising with university Academic Department Advisors and Student Outreach Services
        • Facilitate a seamless transition to department advisors/program coordinators for admitted Woodring College of Education students.
        • Advise non-admitted students on alternative majors and career pathways
        • Communicate and coordinate efforts with Teacher Education Admissions and the equivalent for programs in Health and Community Studies
        • Support and sustain relationships with university student services and resources such as the Academic Advising, Student Outreach Services, Registrar, Financial Aid, Writing Center, etc.
      • Program Development and Evaluation
        • Identify and communicate best advising practices, student resources, and advising resources to college department/program advisors and program coordinators in the college
        • Create systems that facilitate data collection and information sharing regarding incoming students and teacher education programs
        • Develop and update advising materials (web, video, etc.) to provide clear, consistent, and meaningful information to interested/prospective students
        • Provide regular feedback to WCE Departments regarding potential improvements to advising process and practices to remove barriers that students experience
        • Reconvene the advisory team with members from each teacher preparation program to collaboratively develop a consistent and streamlined advising practices across departments and programs
        • Build and maintain relationships with WWU Departments that prepare teachers

      The State HR classification for this position is Program Coordinator. This is an 11-month, cyclic position.

      Required Qualifications
      • Bachelor’s degree
      • Two years of relevant work experience or equivalent related education experience
      • Ability to work as part of a team and independently under supervision
      • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of potential students and their families as well as current WWU students, staff, and faculty
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
      • High level of proficiency in MS Office Suite including MS Outlook, Word and Excel
      • Demonstrated proficiency updating and maintaining websites
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Familiarity with Woodring Teacher Preparation Programs major
      • Familiarity with WWU initiatives that help students succeed (e.g., Degree Works)
      • Familiarity with WWU academic requirements and academic advising
      • Familiarity with Drupal
      • Familiarity with TEM and Banner

      Salary $3,691 - $4,817/month depending on qualifications and experience
