Job Description

- Meet with Lead Teacher and Assistant Teachers to develop weekly plans and activities.
- Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline as guided by the Socio-Emotional Standards for the state of Massachusetts.
- Work with the classroom staff to plan and implement the daily program of activities based on principles of child development and in accordance with the program’s curriculum. Plans are to be based on Massachusetts Early Childhood Education Learning Standards
- Maintain records on each child’s progress and development for the purpose of planning and compliance.
- Maintain children’s portfolios as tool for assessment.
- Conduct individual parent conferences at least twice a year to discuss each child’s growth and development.
- Provide friendly, courteous services to all members, clients, and volunteers.
- Ensure all YMCA policies and procedures are always followed.
- Model, practice, and carry out the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Contribute to a positive work environment by exhibiting pride, enthusiasm, and cooperation in the job and with co-workers.
- Understand and comply with all requirements of the State of Massachusetts Mandated Reporter.
- Ensure cleanliness, safety and good repair of equipment and lighting for member comfort and facility attractiveness of the classroom.
- Ensure all requests, comments or complaints are immediately addressed by self or referred to the appropriate staff person and followed up.
- Supervise volunteers as necessary.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service provided.
- Assure all certificates and license requirements are current.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or an Associate’s degree in a related field with 3 credits in Early Childhood Education (Child Development). Must meet Massachusetts Dept. of Early Education criteria. At least one year of teaching experience or requirement for experience in accordance with EEC.
- Must have the ability to relate positively to children, parents, staff members and volunteers.
- Demonstrate success in working as a member of a team.
- Effective and strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Must be CPR and First Aid certified.
- Must have knowledge and understand EEC Licensing Regulations
- Demonstrate knowledge of YMCA Child Abuse Prevention guidelines
- Attend all staff meetings
- Comply with professional development requirements annually
- Exhibit desire to encourage strong team work environment
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people from all social and economics segments of the community.
- Ability to change diapers
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and talk to hear
- Regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
- Ability to stay calm in stressful and emergency situations
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
General Function
Responsible for assisting with the developing and implementing an ongoing program of activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child enrolled in the Attleboro YMCA’s preschool program.
