Job summary
We are looking to recruit a self-motivated, enthusiastic, forward thinking Prescribing admin team member. You will report to the prescribing Team manager .
We are a network of two practices, covering a mixed rural and urban population of circa 44,000 patients in Exeter. Our current network team comprises of adult social prescribers, health and wellbeing coach, occupational therapist, paramedics, physios, pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians.
The successful candidate will be based at St Thomas Medical Group and provide services across the network. St Thomas is a large medical group working over several sites with a large clinical team. The candidate will work alongside the wider team of prescribing admin team
Main duties of the job
Prescribing -
Process requests for medication from individual patients paper copies, email, online .
Answering the phone to patient prescription queries
General admin duties that may be required for the prescribing team

Job responsibilities
Job Title: Prescribing Team Member
Hours: 15 -22.5 per week 2 -3 days. .Ideally to include Monday, Thursday & Friday. Can be discussed at interview.
Holidays 5 weeks of leave plus Bank Holidays
Working hours 8.30 am to 5.00 pm usually but
variable to include at least one late night each week( until 6pm )
Main Purpose of Job: To process Medication requests and queries and to
carry out a variety of administrative tasks. Working
across two sites.
Responsible to: Prescribing Team Manager
Duties and Responsibilities of Post:
1. Prescribing -
Process requests for medication from individual patients paper copies, email, online and EPS.
Process requests for medications for groups of patients living in Care Homes.
Explain practice arrangements to patients but using judgement and sound communication skills ensuring that patients requiring urgent medication are dealt with in an appropriate manner and support is sort from appropriate clinical staff.
Respond to all medication related queries and requests for assistance from patients in person, on the telephone and online.
To ensure that patient queries on medication are referred to the relevant GP where needed
Set up prescriptions for Blister Packs where appropriate.
Manage repeat prescription synchronisation
Processing hospital discharge changes in medication
Amend or add new items as recommended after a specialist referral.
Ensure information about medication prescribed by any outside source is documented on patients records.
Ensure information on treatment periods for key drugs are kept up to date on patients records including titration.
Regular checking of patient medical records to ensure adherence with prescribing guidelines, e.g. arranging blood tests where appropriate and monitoring test dates.
To book appointments on the telephone for blood tests ensuring essential information is recorded for the clinician.
To note over or under use of medication and highlight to GP.
To notify patient if GP rejects a request for medication.
Keep up-to-date records of prescriptions collected by each pharmacy
Keep up-to date records of Controlled Drug prescriptions for collection by patients.
To monitor prescriptions not collected and to remove details from patient records.
Processing CCG brand medication changes
Administration of recommendations to stop over the counter medications being prescribed.
Process Safety Alerts for medicines
Maintenance and processing of Just In Case Bags.
Ordering, maintenance and storage of stock of Decapeptyl, Mirenas, Zoladex, etc.
Take part in medicine waste campaigns
Ordering of stationary supplies as required.
Necessary skills for the post:
An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and knowledge to respond to queries and requests in a pleasant and articulate manner.
Excellent communications skills and an ability to listen empathise and use diplomacy when interacting with patients both in person and by telephone.
Good mathematical skills.
Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team of clinicians and administrative staff.
Able to work under pressure and adapt to changes whilst working at a high standard.
Computer literacy with accurate keyboard skills combined with the ability to acquire new skills on a clinical system (SYSTM-1)
Experience using office equipment photocopier and document scanning.
Smart professional appearance
