      Job summary

      Thursby Surgery is looking to expand it's team so we are looking for a Prescription Clerk/Medicines Administrator to join our Thursby Surgery and our Branch Surgery, Daneshouse Team.

      This position is for 25 hours per week - 5 hours a day - Monday to Friday - perminant lates (13.30-18.30)

      Main duties of the job

      We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard working, motivated and pro active individual to join our ever growing Practice.

      The successful candidate willwork alongside our Practice Pharmacy Technician with the processing of prescription requests and queries from both internal and external sources. Forward those requests to the authorising GPs, Nurse Prescribers and Clinical Practitioners in accordance with the principles of Good Practice, Practice policies and following Standard Operating Procedures to maintain a high standard within the Dispensary Team.

      Thursby Surgery is based on two sites approximately 1 mile apart and our clinical team currently includes GPs, Advanced Nurses Practitioners, a Practice Pharmacy Technician, Practice Paramedics, Practice Nurses, GPA's, Nurse Associate and Phlebotomists. There is a strong team atmosphere and a focus on continuous development throughout the surgery.

      We work as part of a Primary Care Network which provides health care for a population of 60k, we have developed close relationships with the Community and voluntary sector providers and we hold regular MDT meetings that are at the heart of collaborative working.

      We are looking for enthusiastic and autonomous working candidates to join our highly skilled, friendly team.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      Scope and Purpose of the Role

      To assist with the issue of prescriptions requests via online apps, Email, Patient Repeat slips and telephone enquiries.

      To ensure all prescriptions are issued appropriately and any concerns highlighted to the Prescriber or Pharmacist.

      Ensure Review Dates are appropriate and address any concerns with the prescriber in an auditable manner.

      To ensure all Medications requiring monitoring are reviewed and recorded appropriate to the needs of the Practice.

      To action tasks and letters on a regular basis.

      To Issue and record automatic prescriptions for Pharmacy.

      To ensure Dispensary prescriptions are signed on a regular basis and team members are aware of any issues.

      Issue medications according to Practice Procedures and SOPs.

      To consider Health and Safety at all times ensuring that all shelves and work surfaces and equipment are kept clean and tidy and in good working order.

      To ensure the use of computers is appropriate and in accordance with Practice procedures. Demonstrate sensitive communication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.

      Work with multi-disciplinary team within the Practice, and across the broader healthcare community, to promote integrated and seamless pathways of care.

      Contribute to the practice achieving its quality targets to sustain the high standards of patient care and service delivery.

      Help develop and set up new patient services and participate in initiatives to improve existing patient services.

      You will be required to assist in the fulfilment of the Prescription Team roles in their absence.

      Any other roles and responsibilities deemed necessary.

      Professional Role

      Record accurate consultation data in patients records, utilising read codes.

      Work collaboratively with colleagues within and external to the practice.

      The post-holder must co-operate with all policies and procedures designed to ensure equality of employment. Co-workers, patients and visitors must be treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion etc.

      Help the practice operate in a cost-effective manner.

      Identify and manage care risks on a continuing basis.

      Participate in practice meetings and practice management meetings, reporting progress as required.

      Participate in audits and inspections as appropriate.

      Work closely with the doctors and administrative managers in the setting up and or improving of practice systems for monitoring and measuring performance against Clinical Governance and Quality Indicator targets.

      Ensure that all Practice Policies are fully implemented.

      Risk Management

      Manage and assess risk within the areas of responsibility, ensuring adequate measures are in place to protect staff and patients and public including ensuring they are safe and free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security policies, procedures and guidelines.

      Understand and apply legal policy that supports the identification of vulnerable and abused children and adults, being aware of statutory child, vulnerable adult health procedure and local guidance.

      Work within policies regarding family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse and addictive behaviour, and refer as appropriate.

      Maintain confidentiality, data protection, access to records and information governance procedures, seeking advice from Caldicott and Information Governance Leads, and ensuring all training is up to date.

      The post-holder is required to travel independently between practice sites, patient homes, where applicable, and to attend meetings etc hosted by other agencies.

      Administrative and Professional Responsibility

      To ensure accurate notes of all consultations and medications are recorded and appropriate data entered on the computer.

      To ensure completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare.

      Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for reports.

      Attend and participate in practice meetings as required

      Assist in the formulation of practice policy and philosophy

      To participate in audits as requested/initiate audits where approved.

      To be aware of and adhere to all Company Policies, procedures and guidelines when undertaking any activity

      To maintain notice boards in the waiting area designated for patients

      Ensure strict confidentiality is applied to all patients and staff ensuring need to know basis is applied at all times

      Research, Education and Training

      To cooperate and participate as required in any research projects within the practice

      Maintain continued education by attendance of courses and study as deemed useful or necessary

      Identify and support practice development plans

      The post holder should acknowledge any limitations of his-her competence, not accepting responsibility for work outside the scope of the role

      To maintain competencies relevant to the role and identify personal development needs and plan with the nurse manager on how these can be achieved

      To acquire, maintain and improve knowledge and skills required to competently perform all agreed healthcare activities. This involves undertaking in-house and mandatory training as agreed by the Clinical Lead and Practice Manager.
