- The candidate shall be able to support the inspection and certification of Pressurized Vessels and Systems (PVS). PVS includes cryogenic, vacuum, hydraulic, and compressed gases (including shop air) systems, subsystems, purge carts, R&D systems, test articles, relief valves, gages, flexible hoses, and other components.
- The candidate will under the direction of a lead technician or engineer, assist with and/or perform review of the existing documentation, preparation for inspection, performance of visual and non-destructive examinations, inspection for code compliance and workmanship, component verification, report preparation, risk assessment and recommendations to meet NASA/GSFC requirements.
- Update and utilize in-service inspection procedures and perform periodic in-service inspections and other inspections as required by PVS engineer.
- Use information from system walk downs and/or given information to create drawings or schematics of pressure systems.
- Interfaces with and support engineers and technicians. Performs non-routine assignments and assists in setting group goals and plans to carry them through.
- Receives technical advice when needed and performs with little supervision. May cross-train and/or support other duties associated within area of assignment as directed by lead personnel or supervision.
- Assist with and/or perform testing and inspection of components such as pressure relief devices and flexible hoses.
- Use database system to track component certification dates and work with PVS technician(s), PVS engineer(s), and system owners to maintain certification of PVS systems.
- Be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the database on certification activities.
- Communicate with Group Lead and customers as required to complete tasks. Must be able to follow procedures.
- Ability to maintain GSFC High Pressure Operator license, including medical requirements contained therein.
- Must be capable of successfully completing the following training: hazard communication, personal protective equipment, IT security, PVS related training and/or certifications
- May need to Travel 10%.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience related to Pressure Vessels and Systems.
- Ability to work from well-defined specifications contained in sketches, diagrams, and drawings to carry out assignments.
- Familiarity with hand tools and mechanical principles
- Associate degree in a technical field is preferred.
- Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills with ability to work well in a team-oriented atmosphere.
