      Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:


      The Principal Business Analyst is a trusted systems specialist translating business and customer needs into technology solutions for the Immigration Risk and Border (IRB) branch. This is an integral role in the Identity Services Team, and the technical expertise and systems knowledge you bring will complement the data management focused Principal Data Scientist and the business focused Senior Business Analyst.

      You will provide operational and specialist system-related advisory support to the business unit and Identity Services Leadership team (ISLT), bringing their business knowledge, understanding and perspective to contribute to the development of INZ’s identity management capability. They will be involved in driving change and the development of functions, systems, strategies, policies and capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the business.

      In this role you will be integral to operations of Identity Services by providing robust, critical strategic thinking; identifying trends, risks and problems; analysing and developing solutions; enabling the ISLT to make efficient, high-quality decisions to improve INZ’s service delivery. You will also provide guidance and mentoring to other members of the Identity Services team and contribute to the uplift in understanding regarding INZ’s identity operations and its use of biometrics.

      Meeting the following specifications will be a significant advantage for applicants, though not all are a prerequisite for the role:

      • A tertiary qualification in a relevant technical discipline, ideally specialising in one of the following areas: data science, forensic identification science, biometrics, digital identity, entity resolution, database management or another relevant technical discipline or at least 3 years equivalent operational work or research experience.
      • Excellent understanding and operational experience of a comparable national or international identity management system, including systems, automated and manual processes.
      • Detailed understanding of the visa processing value chain, identity management and data sharing processes.
      • Experience with design, implementation, maintenance, and development of biometric identification systems, with a focus on optimising automation and manual user experience.
      • Confidence in your decision making and a strong commitment to being a trusted advisor to diverse stakeholders.
      • Ability to perform in-depth technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications.
      • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal – with the ability to tailor to people at all levels (i.e. from technical specialists to the general public), both internal and external to INZ.
