Job summary
The Bath National Pain Centre is one of the largest in the UK, providing both local and national pain rehabilitation services. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a principal clinical psychologist to join the Secondary Care part of the pain service to replace the retiring current post-holder. This service receives referrals from GP's in primary care and consultant colleagues in secondary care.
The post-holder will join a dynamic and forward thinking team consisting of consultants, nurses, a specialist physiotherapist and a supportive admin team. There are established links within the umbrella of the co-existing national service for supervision and training. The role will involve leading the therapy and non-medical assessments, including assessment, individual therapy and group programmes. The post-holder will join the senior management team and provide leadership, line management and service development. There are exciting developments in the literature describing new ways to help people with chronic pain. We are looking for someone with passion and enthusiasm to continue to build on the innovative work that is already happening within the Service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead the established and successful Pain Management Programme and will be part of the senior leadership team of the Chronic Pain Speciality. This will involve the governance and operations of the Speciality, contributing to ongoing improvements in the services through the Bath Improving Together programme. The Chronic Pain Speciality has highly specialist and experienced clinicians, so this post will provide opportunity to develop outstanding clinical assessment and therapy skills and expertise in Chronic Pain.
Within the Chronic Pain Speciality there are regular Psychology meetings. Supervision and CPD is highly valued and supported. The Chronic Pain Speciality provides study days and clinical placements to Clinical Psychology Trainees (University of Bath), Physio and OT students (UWE) and supports training for Advanced Pain Trainees (anaesthetists) and GP Trainees.
In summary this is a busy, well supported clinical post with opportunity for service and personal development. It would suit an ambitious Clinical Psychologist with aspirations to senior NHS / Consultant roles.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
