- Architect and develop a scalable data foundation supporting diverse data needs, including various integrations, batch and real-time insights, and data types.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and leadership teams to architect solutions.
- Translate technical and non-technical stakeholder conversations into comprehensive solutions.
- Guide engineers in producing scalable, elegant solutions across the stack.
- Model best practices for data ingestion, transformation, warehousing, streaming, storage, and real-time insights.
- Develop cost-effective, resilient, and scalable data infrastructure plans.
- Lead the evolution of ML platforms to accelerate AI-driven business impact.
- Create strategic roadmaps for data infrastructure aligned with company goals.
- Make critical decisions on data architecture and technology at the company level.
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years in data engineering or architecture, with at least 5 as a Principal Engineer.
- Proven experience managing large-scale data infrastructures in fast-paced environments, preferably in scaling data for late-stage startups.
- Expertise in cloud platforms, big data tech, databases, ML, AI, and data warehousing.
- Experience with data integration, streaming, processing, governance, and security.
- Strong leadership and influence skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Industry recognition or published work in data engineering.

About The Role
Chime is seeking a Principal Engineer to develop a scalable data platform supporting rapid company growth. This key role involves leading architecture and guiding a team to build new data capabilities. The platform aims to support all data needs of Chime's products and internal operations, considering compliance, governance, analytics, third-party systems, etc., within a high-availability, cloud-based architecture. Combining vendor and in-house solutions, this engineer will shape Chime's technical data strategy.
As the team expands, you will design scalable code and data architectures, collaborating across teams to ensure seamless platform integration for product needs and partner requirements.
The starting salary ranges from $263,160 to $372,800, with eligibility for bonuses, equity, and benefits. The actual salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience.
