The Principal Data Modeler oversees the strategic execution and operational integrity of the enterprise data warehouse environment, enabling a continuous stream of iterative business value. Designing for performance and process efficiency, this role capitalizes on a modern data platform by guiding the practice of data modeling, integration, and information delivery.Collaborate with business and technical teams to understand the alignment of needs across the enterprise in order to provide a vision and direction for data warehouse capabilities
Execute against an evolving data product strategy to deliver iterative business value for operational and analytics teams
Guide and monitor the evolution of a data model inventory (base domains and business views), ensuring an intentional and efficient rationalization of data, designed for optimal performance
Lead the design of conceptual, logical, and physical data models, leveraging best practices, including the use of dimensional and data vault modeling techniques
Maintain data warehouse architecture and modeling standards and provide guidance to other technical staff, ensuring standards are continuously practiced
Champion effective data modeling practices and skills among business analytics teams through proactive and effective communications and engagement
Serve as an advisor during project intake, estimation, and scope changes for all corporate projects and high-priority business initiatives
Advise leadership to influence the timing of corporate projects and other business priorities to optimize throughput efficiency and minimize technical debt
Consult with various teams to ensure data architecture, modeling, and engineering is factored into the scope and design for all application projects, thus ensuring that analytics needs/opportunities aren’t treated as a byproduct of application functionality
Collaborate with Principal Data Engineer to ensure data pipelines and integration efforts are optimized and adapt to evolving best practices
Review data impact analyses prepared by Enterprise Data Architects to determine impacts on the data warehouse environment, inclusive of data pipelines, core logical and physical design, and data distribution layers
Define the data warehouse key management strategy to enforce referential integrity and to manage and harmonize business keys across the data warehouse and in alignment with the business application layer
Ensure that data warehouse operations comply with all defined governance, security, and privacy policies, including the enforcement of metadata practices
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, economics, or related functional area; or equivalent experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to gather requirements and effectively communicate technical concepts and ideas to all levels of employees and management
8+ years’ experience working with end users in development of data warehousing and analytics capabilities
8+ years of hands-on experience in the data space spanning data modeling, SQL-based database management systems, integration, ETL / data pipeline design, and data visualization
Expert-level data modeling experience in an analytics/warehouse environment, using dimensional modeling techniques; prior successful deployments using Data Vault is preferred
Expert-level SQL coding experience
Prior experience using data warehouse MPP platforms such as Snowflake, Netezza, Teradata, Redshift, etc.
Familiarity with DataOps practices and their application within analytics/warehousing environments as well as their ability to extend data and analytics capabilities to other operational systems and consumers
Familiar with the use of role-based security, data masking, encryption, obfuscation, and other practices to ensure data privacy and security

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
