Overview
Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates engineering assignments associated with the design, development and cost reduction projects of Drive Axles products used in medium and heavy duty Linehaul truck applications. Function provides technical support and guidance to other engineers and designers.
Job Responsibilities
• Position is responsible for technical leadership for new product design of components and assemblies in the CVS drive axle product lines.

• Position has accountability to drive technical DMO cost savings for the drive axle products.
• Position is responsible for guidance and leadership for Six-Sigma projects aimed at reducing warranty cost within RDT North America.
• Position is responsible for broadening Six-Sigma skills with Six-Sigma Green Belt individuals and mentoring them through their Black Belt certification. Individual is expected to set in place design changes that will keep warranty cost in line with business unit targets.
• Support Quality initiatives that will determine Root Cause of Problems and set in place design changes to permanently resolve the problem.
• Works closely with product design, suppliers and manufacturing facilities
• Position manages no direct reports, but leads and mentors engineers while leading projects
• Work closely with Drive Axle and Driveline Engineers for establishing, guiding and completing projects related to warranty reduction.
• Interface with the Meritor plants, Suppliers and answers inquiries in a professional and expedient manner.
• Supports manufacturing processing projects by providing the technical guidance and evaluation of product which manufacturing proposes to be made using new materials or processes.
• Takes the engineering lead to achieve a year over year reduction in warranty as stated in the corporate quality goals.
• Assist other Engineers to further develop their drive axle technical skills.
• Takes the engineering leadership for the design and development of incremental changes to the drive axle product lines.
• Provides the technical support to the customer support and application team.• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering required, MS degree in Mechanical Engineering Preferred
• Candidate must have 15 + years of applicable engineering experience in the Commercial/Light Vehicle sector.
• Candidate must have design and development experience with vehicle drivetrain components (i.e. Drive axles or Transmissions).
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals - machine element design, manufacturing processes and statistical analysis techniques
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Fluent in the use of Six-Sigma methodologies and tools
• Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills with a strong focus on customer support.
• Structured Problem Solving skills
• Project management skills are desired.Bonus Potential
