      We are looking for a Principal I - Security professional who will be responsible for the design, development, and administration of security and emergency programs for projects and operations of Rio Tinto in the country. The scope encompasses the protection of employees, company data, and local assets with focus on prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery.

      Working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:

      • Assess the security threats and risks and deploy plans to protect people, physical and digital assets, and collective reputation.
      • Provide expert advice to the management to make informed decisions in complex situation or scenarios.
      • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, and Rio Tinto’s policies and standards.
      • Conduct regular risk assessments and integrate security controls in emergency response procedures at different scales.
      • Coordinate the timely flow of relevant information to decision makers to activate and execute emergency response plans.
      • Ensure appropriate training of employees and contractors for the secure execution of field-based activities and exploration programs.
      • Be the local point of contact for the Rio Tinto Group Security function and for all internal and external security audit requirements.

      What you’ll bring

      • Professional certificate or diploma in the fields of security management, law enforcement, criminology, among others. Desired university degree
      • At least 10 years in industry specific experience (e.g. police, military, security services), plus 3 years of supervision experience
      • Experience on intelligence-management and structured decision-making processes. Formal training will be regarded.
      • Onsite leadership and tactical mindset to implement security and emergency response programs for field-based activities and logistics
      • Impeccable personal records and relevant references. Background check and psychological tests for applicants will be undertaken
      • Team player mindset with experience in multi-disciplinary groups and exposition to different stakeholders
      • Fluent in English and Spanish to interact and report within the professional network of Rio Tinto
      • Adherence to Rio Tinto standards and policies
      • Valid driving license held for minimum 1 year

      Where you will be working

      This role is based in Medellin and expected to support the exploration projects in the country, and eventually in other jurisdictions in South America, providing expertise on best practices in Security and emergency response. In this role, you will report to the Exploration Manager in Colombia and work alongside with other security specialists in the Region.
