- Provide accurate, timely and expert advice on critical legal issues across the range of legislation primarily administered by one of the regulators, SafeWork NSW or the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) on statutory interpretation, the conduct of legislative projects and administrative law.
- Analyse and interpret legislation; draft documents including advices, submissions and other legal documentation, briefing notes and correspondence.
- Work with our internal stakeholders on a range of legislative projects and requests for advice, to exchange information, complete tasks and meet deadlines providing advice that supports the organisation.
- The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. The right applicant will be a team player willing to hit the ground running, who can work independently and be client focused, including developing innovative solutions.
- The role provides an opportunity to undertake a broad range of legal work including matters of significance to both DCS and the NSW Government generally. Lawyers with experience in government, regulatory and/or administrative law would be best suited for the role.
- Admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales with relevant experience and capacity to manage and supervise the work of others in a legal team and eligible to hold a practising certificate.
- Sound knowledge of legislative regulatory frameworks, and a strong background in providing clear and concise advice as to the interpretation and operation of legislation.
- Experienced in advising in relation to administrative law, and interpretation and operation of legislation
- Excellent stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical ability, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills including an ability to respond creatively and apply legal principles in a practical way.

Exciting opportunities for Principal Lawyers have become available in our SafeWork and State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) legal advisory teams within the Department of Customer Service (DCS). In these roles you will be working in an interesting and challenging regulatory environment.
The Department of Customer Service is offering Principal Lawyer, Advisory Grade 11/12 opportunities in its Legislation & Advising teams supporting SIRA and SafeWork. Reporting to a Managing Lawyer, Legislation and Advising you will be providing legal services on a broad range of challenging matters for a regulatory agency in the DCS cluster.

Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $139,787 base plus superannuation
