Serve as the key scientific, clinical, and pharmacoeconomic resource for the national MSL team and with cross-functional stakeholders as needed
Forge positive relationships and cross-functional collaboration with key internal team members in Global Medical, Field Sales, Value and Access and Marketing teams to facilitate One-Amgen customer facing engagement strategies
Act on behalf of MSL Executive Director and collaborate as a consultant with internal partners and cross-functional teams to represent the field medical perspective, communicating back to the SLT and field team
Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues, leading complex projects effectively and efficiently in a highly matrixed environment as needed
Elevate and expand the visibility, value, and impact of the MSL team across medical affairs and with cross-functional stakeholders, and seek opportunities to enhance cross-functional and cross-therapeutic area collaborations
Consolidate MSL field insights into concise, impactful flash reports, communicating field observations and insights to cross-functional internal stakeholders as needed
Lead and/or participate in activities across internal teams reviewing assessment of insights across reimbursement/provider landscape, assessing the impact of key events at Payer/IDN level, and providing real-time updates for implications on Amgen’s portfolio.
Lead activities that support development and advancement of clinical research, population health research, and product life cycle strategies
Mentor the team and offer opportunities for shadowing and reverse shadowing as needed, openly sharing knowledge and standard methodologies to enhance the level of both internal and external engagements
Support new hire integration into the MSL role by facilitating shadowing/reverse shadowing opportunities, demonstrating success within the role and providing feedback, guidance, and advice to ultimately accelerate their assimilation into the field, the team, and the company
Transform from learner/performer to mentor/teacher and effectively mentor platform, congress, product, study, and training leads
Assess MSL training needs and find opportunities for prioritized training, providing strategic input and training recommendations to the training lead
Serve as field representative of the SLT, contributing to development of Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs), Quarterly Medical Reviews, and other projects that demonstrate the value of the MSL function
Support Executive Director, internal medical partners, and regional medical leads in development of national R&D tactics that shape and demonstrate the MSL value proposition
Anticipate changes in internal/external landscape and work cross-functionally to develop OL engagement plans that align with the MSL SEPs
Lead, counsel, and/or participate on project teams that support MSL strategies and tactics as delegated by MSL leadership
Maintain the level of clinical savvy and expertise that results in recognition in the therapeutic area by healthcare decision makers, peers, and other internal collaborators
Engage with healthcare collaborators on a national scale to communicate clinical and scientific data to advance the scientific platform as aligned with Amgen’s goals and objectives
Serve as the MSL Lead at designated high priority regional payer and IDN accounts
Lead effectively and efficiently in a highly matrixed environment
Champion innovation and encourage the development and implementation of new ideas, embracing new technology and taking proactive measures to incorporate it into daily processes
Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)
Seven years of industry experience in Scientific/Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company
At least three years in the MSL role at Amgen
Managed market/payer/IDN engagement experience
Seven or more years focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research. Experience in a medically related field can include post-doctoral training (i.e., residencies and/or fellowships)
Therapeutic area expertise in Bone Health/Osteoporosis

In this vital role you will act as a field-based Principal Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in the Bone Health therapeutic area within the US Medical Organization, reporting to the Bone Health Field Director in your region. The Principal MSL will continue to perform the duties expected of the MSL role, elevate the MSL role nationally and globally through mentorship and training, and provide strategic leadership for priority cross-functional projects as appropriate. The Principal MSL should demonstrate a consistent history of excellence and mastery of the MSL role. In addition to responsibilities of the Senior MSL role, the expanded responsibilities for the Principal MSL role include:
