  Job summary

  Cardiff and Vale Local Authority, in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, are jointly developing a team to support and sit alongside young people and their families who are experiencing high levels of distress. The name of the team is Goleudy which is the welsh word for Lighthouse (a beacon of hope). Goleudy's core values are: Trauma-Informed, Formulation Driven and Attachment Focused. The team will ensure that understanding of young people's needs are centred around: 'what has happened to them?' as opposed to: 'what is wrong with them?' This understanding will determine how the team supports young people and their families at times of high distress.

  The team will consist of a Clinical Psychologist, OTs, Graduate Mental Health Workers and team members from Education and the Local Authority. Difference will be celebrated within the team through the promotion of a culture of learning together. In accordance to trauma informed principles the team will receive regular supervision, mentoring, reflective practice, formulation conversations and nurture days.

  Building, maintaining and growing relationships is key to the team. Emphasis will be placed on working alongside and in partnership of the existing services within the local authority (social work & education) and health systems.

  Main duties of the job

  We are looking to recruit a Practitioner Psychologist who is passionate about trauma-informed care and working with young people, families and systems in crisis.

  The Psychologist will have the opportunity to work clinically with young people and their families, alongside numerous opportunities to supervise, train and teach others, and create meaningful and impactful change. The post-holder will be integral in developing psychological formulation in the team and beyond. Goleudy works alongside and under the umbrella of the Enfys team so there is fantastic opportunity to cross-pollinate learning, leadership and support.

  This post will be supervised by the Service Lead for Enfys until the Clinical Lead post for Goleudy is filled.

  The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Substantial and demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist with experience working with people with gender dysphoria.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings and maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified healthcare professional and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
  • Experience of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrable evidence of significant specialist clinical supervision within a scientist-practitioner framework, including supervision, group supervision and case presentations.

  • Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
