      Job Description

Cox Automotive is seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Lean Metrics, Coaching & Tooling to play a critical role in transforming how software is delivered at scale across our product and engineering organization. This role partners closely with Solution Delivery leadership to drive enterprise-wide improvements by eliminating waste, improving flow, and developing innovative digital tools—especially those powered by generative and agentic AI.

You’ll lead efforts to evolve Cox Automotive’s Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tooling strategy, build data-rich systems that measure and enhance engineering performance, and automate decision-making through visualization and AI-powered capabilities. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the future of software development across a large-scale, complex enterprise.

      Key Responsibilities:

      Lean Metrics & Performance Enablement

      • Design and build tools that drive visibility and data-driven insights into delivery performance across key practices such as Agile Program Management, Capacity Planning, Flow Management, Quality Shift Left, Lean Portfolio Management, and Continuous Planning.

      • Automate measurement and performance tracking to inform coaching and continuous improvement strategies.

      • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance engineering effectiveness across teams.

      Tooling Strategy & Architecture

      • Own and evolve the Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tool strategy at Cox Automotive.

      • Collaborate with engineering enablement teams to define the tooling roadmap and integrate performance data into enterprise platforms (e.g., Snowflake).

      • Lead tooling transitions if necessary, including vendor evaluations and enterprise rollouts.

      AI-Enabled Transformation

      • Design and develop generative AI and agent-based tools to automate non-value-added work across the software delivery lifecycle.

      • Build AI-powered digital agents that support engineers, product managers, and delivery leaders in improving productivity and decision-making.

      • Be a thought leader in the AI-powered development space and advocate for the responsible and impactful use of AI in enterprise software.

      Required Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 10 years of experience in a related field.
A different combination will also be considered, such as:

        • Master’s degree and 8 years of experience

        • Ph.D. and 5 years of experience

        • 22 years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree

      • 7+ years of experience with Agile Lifecycle Management tools (e.g., Rally, Jira, VersionOne, TFS)

      • 7+ years of experience analyzing and manipulating large datasets, with coding experience to support advanced data processing.

      • 5+ years of experience leading or coaching scaled Agile delivery teams (SAFe, LeSS, Scrum, XP, Lean)

      • 5+ years of experience applying lean optimization methodologies (e.g., Lean Management Systems, Six Sigma, Lean Software Development)

      • Demonstrated experience implementing organizational change across geographically distributed teams.

      • Experience developing AI or agentic tools for internal platforms or enterprise systems.

      • Prior experience managing tool vendor relationships or leading enterprise transitions between platforms.
