      Principal Software Engineer

      We are currently re-platforming our Global eCommerce Store that delivers and drives a headless eCommerce solution for Elsevier. We are a team of eight engineers that uses cutting-edge technologies to build products and systems to advance science and health. We provide our customers with powerful digital solutions, helping them to research the biggest problems facing the world today.

      About the Role

      Partner with global teams to support the strategic development of our self-service B2B eCommerce Magento platform. Perform complex research, design, and software assignments, whilst providing direct input into project plans. Collaborate on solution design / implementation with our Lead Software Engineer. Be a subject matter expert for a team of Software Engineers partnering with the product owner.

      Our core platform technology is based on Adobe Magento (v2) integrating with our up-stream sales, customer, and product management systems (inc. Salesforce Sales Cloud), and down-stream order management / fulfilment engines. Utilize lean, creative, and optimal configuration applications and modular extensions to ensure the Magento 2 capabilities meet business needs.

      Responsibilities:

      • Turning prioritised backlog items into released features

      • Providing product and technology expertise when scoping complex work

      • Writing and reviewing portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components

      • Completing complex bug fixes, resolving of technical issues, and designing / working with complex data models

      • Partnering with other development team members to understand complex product requirements and translating them into software designs

      • Operating in various development environments (e.g., Agile) while collaborating with key stakeholders

      • Ensuring up to date, appropriate platform documentation is available and knowledge sharing is enabled

      • Training entry-level software engineers as directed by department management, ensuring they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles


      Requirements:

      • Have in depth complex Software Engineering experience

      • Experience in performance optimization in server & application layers, doing POC. I ntegration experience on any of micro services / middle wares.

      • Process like code review, security checks and continuous improvement.

      • Great to have Magento Commerce Architect certification or at least any of Magento certifications

      • Experience of coordinating with other internal development groups

      • Experience and knowledge of Magento 2 with demonstrable experience in delivering enterprise scale eCommerce capability.

      • Experience of Magento’s B2B functionality (an application to both B2C and B2B selling models)

      • Experience using AWS, Jenkins, Javascript

      • Have the ability to manage and resolve complex technical challenges in a platform context

      • Have a detailed understanding of Magento’s capabilities (inc. multiple sites/stores/views, cross-selling capability, currency and tax, subscription-based and digital products, promotions/trials/bundles, etc.)

      • Have knowledge of Magento Plugins and their effective selection from the Marketplace and/or custom design and implementation

      • Have extensive experience in the effective integration of Magento with other up/down-stream business systems (inc. inventory/product feeds, payment gateways, fulfillment chains, CMS, etc.)
