      Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Pro Bono Counsel - Transactional. Reporting to the Senior Pro Bono Counsel, this position will be part of a larger Pro Bono team and is responsible for expanding, managing, and participating in the firm’s transactional pro bono practice, with a focus on nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations and low-income entrepreneurs and business owners as well for administrative operations of the firm’s Pro Bono Practice within the assigned regions.

      The Pro Bono Counsel - Transactional position can sit in any of the following offices: Washington, DC, Chicago, Boston, New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Houston, Silicon Valley, LA or Orange County.

      A hybrid in-office/remote working schedule is available for this position.

      Responsibilities

      Transactional Pro Bono Counsel Responsibilities:

      • Develop relationships with nonprofit organizations that refer transactional matters to the firm.

      • Identify and evaluate transactional pro bono matters for eligibility and appropriateness.

      • Promote lawyer engagement in pro bono representation of nonprofit, tax-exempt clients and low-income entrepreneurs and business owners.

      • Maintain strong relationships in all corporate practice groups of the firm to promote pro bono participation and advance overall strategic goals of the firm.

      • Use experience representing nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations as well in other transactional areas to supervise pro bono matters, ensuring best possible results for clients and meaningful professional development opportunities for volunteer attorneys.

      • Track progress of transactional pro bono matters and take steps to ensure their timely completion.

      • Attend, facilitate, and, where appropriate, offer trainings in transactional areas of pro bono practice.

      • Participate as appropriate in task forces, bar association committees, professional associations of pro bono counsel, and other gatherings to assess and advance transactional pro bono practice.

      • Help maintain electronic resources for pro bono practice areas.

      Assigned office and Practice Groups Responsibilities:

      • Work with assigned regional Office Pro Bono Committees and Practice Groups to ensure Firm pro bono objectives are met.

      • Develop relationships with nonprofit organizations that refer pro bono matters to the firm.

      • Identify, evaluate, and place meaningful and appropriate pro bono matters with Firm attorneys.

      • Organize substantive legal trainings on various pro bono related issues.

      • Travel to assigned offices to meet with Office Pro Bono Committees and local nonprofit organizations.

      • Develop internal and external pro bono communications specific to assigned region.

      • Maintain electronic resources for pro bono practice areas.

      • Attend conferences and meetings relevant to assigned region to raise the profile of the Morgan Lewis Pro Bono Practice.

      • Report data to regional Office Management and Office Pro Bono Committees and external entities.

      • Plan and execute the Firm’s annual Pro Bono and Community Service Week for assigned region.

      • Develop strong relationships with in-house counsel at major Firm clients that partner with the Firm on pro bono projects.

      Experience/Qualifications:

      This job requires:

      • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.

      • JD and bar membership in the state of practice.

      • Minimum five years’ experience representing nonprofit, tax-exempt clients.

      • Shows initiative and creativity in their work and manage and completes multiple/competing assignments in a timely manner.

      • Detail oriented.

      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

      • Ability to manage large projects or programs across offices.

      • Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills.

      • Occasional travel required.

      For positions in New York, NY, San Francisco and Silicon Valley, CA, the salary range for this job posting is $173,629 - $277,806.

      For positions in Los Angeles and Orange County, CA, the salary range for this job posting is $159,739 - $255,582.

      The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
