- Supervise a unit of Adult Probation staff. This includes managing unit caseloads, assignments, and officer workloads; reviewing Officer/staff work; staffing client issues; and monitoring staff timekeeping & teleworking.
- Performs all of the duties of a Probation Officer when the need arises.
- Provides mentoring and performance feedback to staff.
- Assists the Department in meeting goals, COJET requirements, and mutually established goals with direct reports.
- Elevates, as appropriate, complaints, inquiries, and public relations issues.
- Conducts and attends unit, Department, and workgroup/committee meetings.
- Observe and address staff performance in monthly one-on-ones and annual performance evaluations.
- Participates in special projects and committees as assigned and supports officers' efforts as they participate in special projects and committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Behavioral or Social Science or related field, (per Arizona Supreme Court Order # 2003-92)
- Five (5) years of experience working in probation, case management, a state child welfare, juvenile justice, adult probation or parole systems.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation with no felony convictions.
- Valid Arizona State Driver's License, work will require traveling throughout the county.
- A minimum age of 21 years and must be a United States citizen or have legal resident status per Arizona Supreme Court Order # 2003-92.
- Obtain the Arizona Probation Officer Academy certification and Defensive Tactics certification within one (1) year of hire; may be required to obtain a firearms certification.
- You will be asked to complete a written assignment before advancing to department review.
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques and procedures; counseling practices and behavioral modification techniques.
- Knowledge of social and economic factors in the community and the motivation factors and needs of probationers.
- Knowledge of human services available through probation assistance programs.
- Knowledge of the purpose of court and justice system environments.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, County and related laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of leadership, supervision and training.
- Knowledge of principles of file and records management as they pertain to court system.
- Knowledge of security considerations and measures.
- Ability to maintain required skills, licenses, permits, and/or certifications associated with an area of specialized instruction or expertise, such as firearms qualification or a specialized caseload.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in court related matters.
- Ability to work with material/information that is confidential, sensitive or urgent and requiring extreme tact, courtesy and mature judgement.
- Ability to organize, assign, coordinate, train, supervise and evaluate work activities of assigned staff.
- Ability to conduct effective interviews and verify information obtained.
- Ability to research program documents and narrative materials, and to compile reports from information gathered.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise reports; maintain case files.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in analyzing and applying standards to a variety of situations.
- Ability to observe behaviors and quickly analyze situations, detect problems and recall facts, respond to emergencies or stressful situation calmly, quickly, and decisively.
- Ability to follow instructions, both verbal and written.
- Ability to use a personal computer, electronic networks and other information and communications technologies.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to audiences of various social, cultural, ethnic, educational and economic backgrounds.

Plans, organizes, coordinates, trains, and supervises the activities of assigned Probation Officers who are interviewing, advising, and supervising adult individuals under supervision. The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Will be required to stand and walk for at least half of their scheduled work shift. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard. Vision sufficient to see and read; Hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone; unloading, pushing and carrying small files/objects to and from various locations throughout the County. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky items, equipment, supplies and/or other materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. May be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and some overtime, may be subject to irregular work hours/schedules; employees are subject to immediate callout when an emergency occurs. Will be required to drive throughout the state.About the company
