Provide on the floor support during clinical and validation runs and compile relevant process data
Troubleshoot clinical and commercial drug substance and manufacturing technical issues
Provide support for process optimization projects
High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Engineering or Biotechnology experience OR
Associate’s degree and 6 years of Engineering or Biotechnology experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Engineering or Biotechnology experience OR
Master’s degree
1+ years of experience in a Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical Process Development and/or Manufacturing Support role for drug substance manufacturing
Ability to apply engineering principles and statistical analysis, including design of experiments, in order to solve processing issues and evaluate opportunities for process improvements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work under moderate direction
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Experience in digital and data modeling software
A self-starter with the ability to take-on several projects at one time

What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role at our Rhode Island site, you will apply fundamental scientific principles to upstream cell culture activities. The Engineer will be part of a team focused on bioprocess optimization, drug substance manufacturing support and new product introductions. The site operates two multiproduct facilities that manufacture a range of innovative biologic and biosimilar medicines. This role will be immersed in all aspects of operations in the commercial bulk drug substance facilities.
This role will advance technology transfer projects, resolve processing issues, and conduct technical assessments on process/product impact due to changes in equipment, scale, and raw materials. In addition, the role will involve developing, evaluating and implementing process optimization opportunities via process knowledge and/or new technologies.
The Engineer at Amgen is responsible for supporting the development and improvement of manufacturing processes, equipment, and products. They work to solve technical issues, implement process improvements, and contribute to product design and development projects.
