- Coordinating the refinery’s Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis program, and working closely with the refinery’s Triangle of Prevention Representative
- Selectively leading investigation teams
- Facilitating PHAs and LOPA studies in compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Conducting risk assessments in accordance with PBF Risk Assessment Policy, applying the PBF Risk Matrix.
- Designating and documenting Safety Critical Equipment identified in PHA/LOPA studies.
- Conducting Hierarchy of Hazard Control Analysis (HCA)/Inherently Safer Systems Analysis (ISSA)
- Providing technical evaluation support on behalf of the department within the MOC process.
- Supporting conduct of the triennial process safety compliance audit
- Supporting the triennial process safety audit conducted by regulators
- Providing leadership and guidance for local, state, and federal process safety program elements
- Maintaining process safety work processes and associated policies and procedures
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
- 4+ years of experience in refinery process engineering or equivalent

Process Safety EngineerThe Process Safety Engineer is expected to coordinate the refinery’s Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis program, and to qualify as a Root Cause Analysis team leader. The Process Safety Engineer is also expected to become a PBF-qualified PHA/LOPA facilitator, and to facilitate 3 or 4 PHAs per year. The Process Safety Engineer will be expected to support risk assessments applying the PBF Risk Matrix and will also be expected to provide leadership and guidance for local, state, and federal process safety program elements to ensure compliance with the elements and consistency across the refinery.
The Process Safety Engineer is part of the Process Safety department within the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental department, and they support the entire Martinez Refinery.

The salary range for this position is $84,617.04 - $142,857.98. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation. Salaries at the time of hire are typically in the lower to middle portion of the above range in order to provide the opportunity to reflect future performance-based increases. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
