      Product Management is a leadership role in Malvern Panalytical and is a key function in executing the business strategy. This is an opportunity to join our product team as Product Manager for our Microcalorimetry instruments (MicroCal heritage brand) where you will be the champion for the product range. Evangelizing, networking and influencing others will be key to your success.

      What’s the job?

      You are accountable for the value and viability of the products and related projects that you are responsible for within our Biophysical analysis portfolio.

      You play a strategic role, working out what are the right solutions for our target customers that also work for our business. Combining Voice Of Customer (VOC) and technology opportunities, you will provide product vision and strategic direction for our Microcalorimetry range, within our New Value Innovation (NVI) process.

      You will work closely with colleagues spanning the entire company and ensure that priorities across the portfolio’s products and projects are balanced and aligned to meet the needs of our customers and our ambitious business goals.

      What will you be doing? As part of a portfolio team, you will play the leading role for our Microcalorimetry technologies Isothermal Calorimetry (ITC) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). You will perform strategic activities to ensure we have the right products within the biophysical range for our customers and our business. Every day will be different, but these areas are your key responsibilities where you’ll spend most of your time:

      Strategic product activities:

      • Talk to customers to hear first-hand about their challenges and aspirations. Understand their applications, workflows and personas.
      • Build strong customer value propositions and value walks that enable Malvern Panalytical to combine multiple points of differentiation into compelling customers offerings.
      • With our Sector team (primarily Pharma and Food), explore identified markets. Use market reports, expert opinions and insights to assess market size & share of sales, market drivers & trends. Identify attractive segments to target with relevant propositions.
      • Seek out potential disruptive approaches and business innovations, assess their market and potential in contributing to Malvern Panalytical’s ambitious growth plan.
      • Regularly evaluate the business proposals and build effective Business Approach Plans that include the relevant finance business case, go market approach and marketing KPIs.
      • Perform strategic mapping using tools such as MABA (Market attractiveness Business attractiveness (MABA) and Boston Consulting group (BCG matrix….)
      • Track competitor activities, understand their direction, strengths & weaknesses. Evaluate Next Best Alternatives (NBA) and value walks.
      • Perform won-loss analysis.

      Inbound product activities:

      • Use design thinking and other tools to test hypotheses of what is “valuable to the customer”. Share insights & use cases to input into product design and customer experience. Be high-level VOC in project team.
      • Describe value propositions, provide context and discuss trade-offs with developers and designers. Prioritize work packages according to value to customer.
      • Set balance between scope and time to market.
      • Review milestones with cross-functional stakeholders
      • Test value propositions with customers from early (rapid) prototypes

      Outbound product activities:

      • Product evangelist internally and externally.
      • Input into, and support delivery of, Existing Portfolio Initiatives (EPI) and Sector marketing campaign plans.
      • Engage with Applications colleagues to develop content for new, and to enhance existing, content for both sales and marketing.
      • Be VOC in our quality processes, develop strategy and messaging for customers on quality issues.

      • Experience in product management, product owner or marketing roles would be an advantage.
      • You have a passion for science and technology, ideally with relevant higher level academic training. Knowledge of biophysical analytical techniques such as Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Grating-Coupled Interferometry (GCI) or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) etc., and applying them to research and/or industrial applications is desirable.
      • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Another language is beneficial.
      • You are happy to travel globally to visit colleagues and customers, up to 20% of your time.
      • Ideally you live quite close to our manufacturing site in Northampton, Massachusetts, USA or can visit it regularly as regular face-to-face interaction with team members is required. A hybrid remote/onsite model is typical.
