      Overview

      Job in a Nutshell:

      The Production Machine Feeder in the automated department is responsible for the daily setup and operation of the loading platform for the bulk foods packaging department at the Natural Grocers Distribution Center. The Machine Feeder position is a team-based, fast paced and physically demanding role, and is critical to the success of the automated packaging operation. This position is responsible for maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices, housekeeping, and applicable food safety documentation.

      Responsibilities

      Main Ingredients:

    • Verify daily/weekly production schedule with Machine Operators
    • Ensure machine tooling is setup for the raw materials scheduled
    • Ensure accuracy and quantities of staged raw material prior to loading
    • Inspect raw material during the loading process and report quality concerns to QA department
    • Feed raw material into hoppers in a sanitary, accurate and efficient manner
    • Maintain flow of product throughout each production run
    • Maintain complete and accurate records of raw materials entering production
    • Maintain the segregation of allergen, non-allergen, organic and non-organic products
    • Lead quick and efficient changeovers to minimize down time
    • Complete necessary documentation for changeovers, cleaning, and product specs
    • Remove waste and sweep work area regularly to maintain a sanitary environment
    • Assist with pallet jack operation as needed
    • Follow all SSOP’s and food safety standards
    • Perform all tasks in a manner that promotes safety
    • Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are expected to be “hands on” and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.

      Qualifications

      Recipe for Success:

    • Previous experience in food manufacturing environment preferred
    • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions is required
    • Ability to communicate effectively is required
    • Ability to obtain certification and safety operate electric pallet jack is required
    • Provide backup support to Production Support position on an as-needed basis
    • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in food production preferred
    • Must be able to maintain product flow on multiple lines
    • Must become familiar with allergen categories and required segregation for allergens and organic products
    • Good attention to detail; communication, accuracy and thoroughness is a must
    • Exposure to 5s and Lean manufacturing methodologies a plus
    • Ability to work with others in a fast-paced team environment
    • Must be reliable and on time every day
    • Able to work in seasonally warm or cool environment

      Physical Requirements:

      • Must have the ability to frequently lift or carry up to 10-20 lbs.; constantly lift or carry 21-50 lbs.; and occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs.
      • Must have the ability to occasionally push or pull up to 30 lbs. and frequently push or pull 31-50 lbs.
      • Must be able to occasionally use the computer for data entry and use of mouse for training.
      • Must be able to constantly walk, stand, fine motor manipulation, grip, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift.
      • Must be able to frequently twist, turn, and reach above chest.
      • Must be able to occasionally squat, kneel, bend, crawl, and climb as needed.

      Environmental Requirements:

      • Must be able to constantly work with sharp tools and equipment and noise majority of the work shift.
      • Must be able to frequently work with contact stress and in a congested worksite.
      • Must be able to work with occasional chemicals and vibrations.
