      Job Purpose

      The Paint Operator performs dosing, grinding, batchmaking, etc. as required to manufacture paint, as well as all color matching tasks and physical adjustments necessary to complete the batch. This is an hourly position on all three (3) shifts, as outlined in the Agreement between Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc. Columbus and Teamsters Union Local No. 284

      2nd shift (2 PM - 10.30 PM) + $0.80 shift differential

      Key Responsibilities

      Proficient in the basic skills required for paint manufacturing, including:
      - reading and understanding batch tickets and QC adjustment sheets,
      - operating various transfer pumps (air-diaphragm, mill feed, etc.),
      - understanding and use of process tanks and their associated valves, lids, etc.

      Large Batch Production:
      - Operate the Premix Tanks and related equipment (supersacks, bag dump station, agitator, etc.),
      - operate the Thindown Tanks (agitator, light, etc),
      - operate the freight lift.

      Small Batch Production:
      - use the floor mounted agitators,
      - operate the air-driven lift table.
      · Read the grind value using the Hegman gauge, and operate the dispersion mills (Dyno-mill, sandmill, Drais mill, etc.) as needed.
      - Dose and troubleshoot the Automatic Dosing System (ADS) for Large Batch, Small Batch, and Strontium Chromate.
      - Operate, fill and dispense paint using the Klieverik Intermix System.
      - Operate the Strontium Chromate slurry system.
      - Interact with QC to make batch adjustments. This includes bringing batch samples to QC and Tech for evaluation and making the appropriate adjustments to production batches (measuring and adding as required).
      - Operate the weigh scales in Production areas.
      - Operate the High-Pressure Wash system and operate the Low-Pressure Wash system as needed.
      - Operate the nitrogen blanketing system.
      - Operate the air-driven drum dumper and the portable bag dump station.
      - Confirm that staged batches adhere to batch tickets, including raw material lot numbers.
      - Gather and weigh raw material for batches not staged (mainly Intermix), as required by batch tickets.
      - Operate the power lift equipment.
      - Dispense and general handling of 55-gallon drums. Operate drum trucks.
      - Label and maintain hazardous waste drums in Production areas.
      - Proper housekeeping of work areas and process equipment.
      - Interact with RM Warehouse, Filling and FG Warehouse as needed to maintain smooth paint

      Job Requirements

      · Minimum High School Education or equivalent.

      The Paint Operator must be able to move through various production areas, principally manufacturing areas/floors. This includes climbing stairs. Must be able to stay on feet for 8-12 hours each day.
      · Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds, which represents the typical weight of a bag of solid raw material or a 5-gallon pail of liquid raw material.
      · Must have good eyesight and hearing.
      · Must be able to wear all required safety equipment and protective clothing as required by law and/or corporate policy. This includes, but is not limited to, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear protection, vapor and dust respirators, and safety gloves.
      · Must be able to comprehend and act upon all job directives, whether delivered in written or verbal English.
      · Must comply with all Policies, Rules and Regulations for Production Employees.
