- Performs set-ups and equipment operations for events hosted in Student Centers’ facilities
- Collaborate with contracted performance groups’ technical personnel
- Assist contracted vendors providing technical support during events
- Assess technical and equipment needs with clients prior to their events
- Troubleshoot technical difficulties during events and programs
- Provide assistance and technical support for Student Centers’ managed facilities and Student Affairs auxiliary spaces.
- Perform maintenance, adjustments, and minor equipment repairs on mobile and installed AV as needed.
- Maintain equipment and supply inventories
- Identify equipment and supply purchases
- Possess a working knowledge of emerging technologies
- Attend trainings and workshops to improve technical skills
- Work as part of a team to update all policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness efforts for all student centers
- Ensure all technologies are fully accessible and in compliance with Student Centers policies and procedures
- Utilize excellent customer service skills to connect with and serve Vanderbilt’s diverse community.
- Network to know key stakeholders and building associates by name.
- Ensure outstanding facility cleanliness, accessibility, and event services.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Flexible schedule based on events (nights and weekend work required).
- Other duties as assigned to advance the mission of Student Centers, Student Affairs, and Vanderbilt University.
- Maintain an understanding of institutional and departmental financial policies related to areas such as travel, procurement, expense, and time reporting to ensure compliance and proper stewardship of university resources.
- Demonstrate a willingness to support colleagues across the division in order to encourage the implementation or fulfillment of divisional goals and strategic priorities.
- One year of related experience
- Ability to operate audio visual equipment, movie film projectors, theatrical and concert sound reinforcement, theatrical and concert lighting (including intelligent fixtures), and other electronic equipment
- Proven ability to work independently or in teams
- Possess strong communication, interpersonal, troubleshooting and multitasking abilities
- Ability to maintain frequent heavy lifting and climbing (ladders, catwalks, scaffolds, etc.)
- Ability to work in various climates, weather conditions, environments
- Ability to work a schedule that may include long hours or weekend work
- Familiarity with safe working practices of counterweight and concert rigging, staging, theatrical and concert power distribution, audio, lighting, video equipment, laser displays and pyrotechnics
- Proven ability in establishing and maintaining relationships among event partners
Position Summary:
The Production Services Assistant (VTS) is part of the Production Services department within the Student Center cluster in the Student Affairs division at Vanderbilt University. This position is responsible for overseeing and providing the delivery of the highest level of Audio Visual (AV) support for events and facilities for Student Center, Student Affairs, Vanderbilt Community and outside client events. This position will provide lighting, audio, event technical management and video support for events within the Student Centers and other venues across campus. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, Production Services the Production Services Assistant is a key contributor for all the events assigned to them.
About the Work Unit:
The Student Centers Office manages events, event spaces and facilities across campus. Our team includes event managers, audio/visual technicians, facilities managers, and student staff. We work as a team to create successful events for our clients and guests in our facilities. We work with an array of clients including Vanderbilt student groups, departments, and the greater Nashville Community, and many more. The events we manage range from small meetings to large-scale events including weddings, conferences, and student performances.
