      Lafarge is looking for a Shift Supervisor to join our team at our operations on Texada Island, BC. Texada Island is the largest of BC’s Gulf Islands and can be reached by ferry throughout the day/week from Powell River, BC.       The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the daily activity and performance for their specific operations area and the development, leadership and management of the associated staff. The Shift Supervisor will lead by example supporting alignment with all functional groups, Environment, Land, Manufacturing, Quality and Safety to drive communication and consistency. Primary focus is optimizing operational safety & performance and labour management to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production. Ensures Lafarge is viewed as a valued member of the industry and local communities in which it operates.

      At over 300 square kilometres, Texada Island, on the Sunshine Coast of BC, is the largest of the Gulf Islands. Affectionately known as “The Rock,” Texada Island has a wonderful, colourful history that includes stories of Wild West gold fever days along with natural outdoor attractions not found anywhere else.

      An abundance of trails and old logging roads cover the island and lack of predators makes outdoor adventuring here even more attractive. There are 10 lakes suitable for kayaking or canoeing in addition to wonderful marine bays and coves ringing the island. Texada Island is accessible by ferry with BC Ferries operating ferry service from Westview terminal in Powell River to Blubber Bay terminal on Texada with a 35 minute crossing time.

      Responsibilities

      Safety Culture:

      • Promote safety culture through engagement with employees, JHSC and subcontractors with an objective of developing a “think before you act” culture.
      • Work with Safety and Shift managers to administer, promote and review safety policies, processes and procedures to maintain relevance while ensuring the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines.
      • Assist in the implementation and management of all local and regional safety initiatives, providing feedback as necessary.

      Human Resources:

      • Administer and manage local collective and hourly working agreements with site employees.
      • Directly responsible for the motivation, scheduling and training of all production personnel to promote customer focus, operational efficiency and skill development.

      Production Management:

      • Implement and track maintenance, production processes and strategies to achieve targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Employ daily communication process with management and Quality to drive group efficiencies, manage inventories and production performance.

      Financial Management:

      • Assist in planning, driving and tracking financial performance with local/regional tools, develop, implement and manage annual labour budgets. Support sales/logistics with balancing inventory and sales needs to manage and minimize working capital impact.

      Customer Focus:

      • Assist with inventory reconciliation while balancing inventory levels in order to meet local demand. Schedule and assist logistics, quality and maintenance staff to optimize production, load out efficiencies and product quality.

      Land Management:

      • Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Implement and management of a sustainable mining plan with detailed stripping, production phasing and rehabilitation forecasts to ensure reserve optimization, while managing community impact.

      Environmental Management:

      • Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.

      Community Relations:

      • Support effective relationships within the community by participating in local activities/events and through partnerships with local associations and the business community.

      Relationships with Others:

      • Reports directly to Production and Maintenance Manager
      • Works closely with Blasting Supervisor, Logistics Manager, Fixed Maintenance Supervisor, Assistant Production and Maintenance Manager, Safety Manager and supports others on Union Issues.

      Specific Accountabilities:

      • Safety/Environment: Ensure site and production staff comply with government/Lafarge policies/procedures, Facilitate monthly safety meetings and toolbox talks, Incident reporting - Near Miss, MVA’s, FA’s, MI’s, LTI’s,
      • HR: Development, training and management of front line employees, Administration of local Union agreement
      • Production: Manufacturing KPI’s, Daily Shifters Report, scheduling of employees and assets for production & shipping (load/unload) functions, Daily production meetings, assist with co-ordination of blasting activities
      • Financial: Assist with the development of annual Labour/production budget
      • Customer Focus: Inventory reconciliation

      Dimensions:

      • reports directly to Production Manager
      • 30+ Hourly Staff
      • 5MT of Production/Sales activity

      Qualifications

      Education:

      • Grade 12 diploma
      • University or college degree preferred
      • Shift Boss Certificate

      Experience and Skill Set:

      • Minimum 5+ years production and supervisory experience
      • Computer knowledge in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
      • Knowledge of Mines Act
      • Recognized safety training
      • Experience in administration of Collective Agreements
