THE CITY OF OCEANSIDE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.GRANT-FUNDED PROVISIONAL 3-YEAR TERM POSITION
The City of Oceanside is currently accepting applications for one hourly extra-help Professional Assistant position with the Oceanside Public Library, which will primarily provide support to staff to implement, coordinate and facilitate programs within the Oceanside CA Cultural District (OCCD) at the Civic Center Library and other locations throughout the Cultural District.OCCD is one of 14 state designated cultural districts rich in arts and culture assets and the designation is overseen by the Library Department. Under the general direction of the Library Director and the Senior Librarian of Outreach, the Professional Assistant performs work to support the administration and coordination of public art and marketing projects, administers and coordinates work of the Cultural District and meets with steering committees, and other stakeholder groups.
This position is hourly extra help and does not include medical benefits and will not exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year. This position is funded by a grant from the state of California for a period of three years and will end on June 30th, 2026 should extension funding not be secured. Analyzes and defines objectives and strategies that are specific to the OCCD; prepares recommendations and proposes responses; assists and develops polices and practices; provides project management assistance, makes recommendations for new or modified programs in support of the grant project.
Plans and schedules meetings and gatherings, preparing agendas and related documentation; coordinates work with OCCD, City staff and other community and arts organizations; develops and distributes marketing and public information materials related to the District's projects. Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the activities of the OCCD Steering Committee with support from the OCCD Executive Committee and Library staff.Experience and Training
Experience: Two years of relevant public sector experience. Strong knowledge of local arts and culture activities is desirable.
Training: A Bachelor's degree or higher is highly desirable.

Special Requirements: This position requires variable working hours and the availability to work Saturdays, Sundays and evenings at any location, including mobile libraries or outdoors.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability is highly desirable.Working Conditions: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; walking, climbing (including stepstools, stairs without handrails, and ladders), bending, twisting; exercising full range of motion of the arms, hands, wrists and fingers; lifting (up to 30 lbs.), stooping, crouching, kneeling and stretching; speaking and hearing to exchange information; and visual acuity to read and interpret information. Operation of city vehicles may be required in performance of duties. Flexibility for nights and weekends as needed. Will be required to work at off-site locations.
Selection Process: All properly completed applications (which include the supplemental questionnaire and required supporting documents) will be reviewed and references checked. The most appropriately qualified individuals will be invited to oral interviews to assess job-related qualifications. Applications will be kept on file for three months.
