      PROFESSIONAL DOG GROOMING INSTRUCTOR AND COORDINATOR

      CATEGORY/LEVEL: PSS/5, 12-month contract

      BASIC FUNCTION: Coordinate and instruct NIACC’s Workforce Academy Dog Grooming training program. Recruit, market, maintain inventory for the program; schedule and promote continuing education for new students and area professional dog groomers. This is a full-time position, primarily located off-campus at NIACC’s dog grooming training salon.

      SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting salary of $47,500 to $57,000 depending on qualifications. Benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance; eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans and a variety of additional optional benefits.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3 years of professional experience in dog grooming; possess an American Kennel Club – Professional Groomer (AKC-PG) certification. Must be highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision; some evening and weekend hours may be required.

      RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

      • Supervise student groomers during all stages of grooming a dog.
      • Follow the Groom Curriculum Core Professional Dog Grooming Educational Standards.
      • Coordinate and teach Groom Curriculum courses.
      • Evaluate and assess student learning and provide feedback promptly.
      • Assist students with career placement.
      • Be familiar with first aid for humans and pets; know emergency action protocols to ensure all pets receive care should an emergency arise. Ensure the welfare, health and safety of all animals in the program’s care.
      • Responsible for booking dog grooming appointments and placing reminder calls to clients to ensure dogs are available for instruction and practice.
      • Maintain appropriate records and appropriate communication with students, customers, colleagues, administrators, and other stakeholders.
      • Arrange and attend meetings; maintain ongoing communication with other areas of the Continuing Education division to ensure efficient coordination of training.
      • Responsible for supply inventory records and routine maintenance of program equipment.
      • Ensure the grooming facility is presentable to the public; follow sanitation procedures.
      • Collaborate with marketing to develop marketing materials to ensure adequate enrollments.
      • Have a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
      • Conduct presentations in a clear and effective manner.
      • Remain current in subject knowledge and trends; work towards earning the Master Groomer credential from the American Kennel Club within a year of hire.
      • Participate in assigned and voluntary community and college events/committees.
      • Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
