Job Description
- Req#: R11673
- Provide construction ESH subject matter expertise to ESH, Site Operations and subcontractor staff on technical matters related to the implementation of the NREL Construction ESH Program.
- Interface and communicate with executive management, line management, and DOE counterparts through the delivery of presentations and reports related to ESH performance of ongoing construction subcontractor projects.
- Provide field support as an ESH Point of Contact (POC) for assigned construction activities. Support will include:
- Conduct design and code reviews for construction of building and equipment.
- Review subcontractor Construction Environment, Safety and Health Plans and issue safe work permits for construction related activities.
- Work with Project Managers to oversee construction subcontractors to ensure they comply with all Federal, State and Local safety requirements and NREL’s Lab Level Procedures and Construction ESH Manual.
- Attend plan of the Day meetings, perform pre-job reviews and provide feedback on safety plans and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) for construction activities.
- Conduct daily field walks and routine job site inspections on assigned construction projects.
- Review construction subcontractor steel erection, fall protection, masonry concrete, excavation/trenching & shoring, hoisting and rigging, electrical safety/LOTO, industrial hygiene and other related construction procedures, plans and practices.
- Conduct environment, safety and health orientations for subcontractors.
- Present Construction related ESH information at meetings.
- Assist in resolution of ESH concerns and problems.
- Develop and provide ESH construction training to various organizational units and sub- contractors. The training may be formally scheduled classes or informal, on-demand training on special topics.
- Participate in accident/incident investigation and causal analysis as needed. Follow- up on corrective action implementation.
- Respond to staff and subcontractor inquiries and requests for assistance on ESH matters.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- Master’s degree in environmental health, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, construction management or other relevant discipline.
- 40 hours HAZWOPER training.
- Familiarity with DOE 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health Program and Integrated Safety Management Systems.
- Strong construction safety training and experience
- Experience working construction or related activities within a Department of Energy National Laboratory.
- Ability to perform site work that can involve extreme weather conditions and moderate physical exertion.
- Ability to walk one mile continuously, able to stand continuously for two hours, able to lift and carry 45 pounds.
- Ability and willingness to wear respiratory protection, including a full-face respirator.
- Ability to lead and participate on both intra-office and cross-organizational teams.
- Ability to travel on occasion.
- Ability and willingness to work weekends and/or evenings on occasion as need arises.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite, e-mail and ability to quickly learn database software applications

Job Description
Advanced level Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) Point of Contact position supporting the NREL Site Operations Construction Group on new and ongoing subcontractor construction activities. Capable of working independently in frequent interactions with construction subcontractor management and workers, project managers, facility managers, senior managers, and Department of Energy (DOE) counterparts.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 14 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 12 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts. Develops advanced concepts, techniques and standards. Develops new applications based on professional principles and theories. Viewed externally as subject matter expert in field. Comprehensive and advanced knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Superior leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: Professional V / Annual Salary Range: $111,600 - $200,900 Job Profile: Professional IV / Annual Salary Range: $93,100 - $167,600NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
