      Bond Park is seeking qualified applicants with an interest in working outside in a park setting to assist with daily operation of the Boathouse and Outdoor Recreation programs as a Program Assistant II.

      The Outdoor Recreation Program Assistant assists the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor and Outdoor Recreation Programs Coordinator in the implementation of Outdoor Recreation programs, boathouse management and park support; handling specific jobs as set by the supervisor; and does related work as required.

      Outdoor Recreation camps and programs are heavily focused in Bond Park. Themes are; Archery, Action Sports, Boating, Ropes and Outdoor Skills. Roles include parental interactions, program support and administrative tasks.

      Work schedule will require a flexible schedule that will include evenings, weekends and possibly holidays as needed.

      This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.


      • Assists Outdoor Recreation Supervisor in daily operational management of boathouse, bond park, and concession area.
      • Performs responsible administrative work, such as staff scheduling, participant registration, daily enrollment checks, and developing daily camper activity plans
      • Helps with planning, set-up and hosting for events including bands, Bites and Boats, and July 4th fishing.
      • Responds to citizen requests and needs via 311, telephone or in-person
      • Performs marketing assistant tasks, such as creating brochures, posters, flyers, etc.
      • Performs data entry and processing; maintains databases
      • Support camp and track-out staff when appropriate
      • Performs general office duties
      • May engage in significant telephone contact with the public
      • Purchases approved items to maintain outdoor recreation operations.
      • Assists with various aspects of PRCR programs and special events
      • Assists PRCR staff by working at special events
      • Performs other job-related tasks as required
      • Ability to remain organized, work independently, and pay close attention to detail
      • General knowledge of computers and related software
      • General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
      • Ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline
      • Ability to operate common office equipment
      • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public verbally and in writing
      • Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others
      • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
      • Ability to acquire knowledge of Cary’s policies, procedures, and the services of the department.

      Education and Experience

      Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED AND a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a park or outdoor setting.

      Must be at least 18 years of age.

      Physical Requirements

      This position will require the ability to move about on rough terrain, or work in outdoor environments in inclement weather. Employees must have the ability to lift or move heavy objects, such as supplies or equipment.

      Special Requirements

      Requires possession of a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

      Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
