Job Description

- Knowledge of the arts, including visual arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture), drama, music, dance, multidisciplinary and literary arts
- A demonstrated knowledge of best practices in teaching and facilitating community arts projects and workshops
- Extensive knowledge of Ottawa arts community and current trends in community arts, as well as experience in contemporary art practice
- Knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous and equity-seeking populations, including Anishnabe Algonquin Nation, First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, IBPOC communities, people with visible and invisible disabilities, non-ambulatory persons, D/deaf people, refugee, immigrant and newcomer communities, 2SLGBTQIA communities, people living in poverty, rural residents, Francophone communities, senior/older adult communities, women+, and youth
- Knowledge of project and budget management, publication production, municipal, provincial and national community arts development policies, funding policies and programs
- Knowledge of copyright legislation as it pertains to the arts, artist’s union guidelines, conflict of interest guidelines, legal agreements relating to the arts or arts funding and the peer assessment model
- Knowledge of computer software systems, including Windows, MS Word, MS Outlook, Excel, Internet search engines, PowerPoint and Photoshop
- Demonstrated ability with 35mm and digital photography
- Works effectively in multi-disciplinary teams across branches, departments and agencies
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze the needs and issues of community and special needs populations
- Manage, lead, set priorities and motivate project teams and deliver outcomes
- Must communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to make verbal presentations and write reports and proposals in a concise and logical manner
- Ability to coach, train, recruit, evaluate, supervise and motivate staff and interns in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Works well under pressure and is able to meet project/event milestones
- Proven and effective client service orientation in working with management, staff, elected officials, artists and the community in dealing with complex and sensitive issues
- Capable of multi-tasking, organizing, prioritizing and managing multiple and complex projects within tight deadlines

- Language Requirement: Designated Bilingual – specific level of language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates who do not meet language requirements will be required to participate in training.
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.

Cultural and Heritage Programs is responsible for multi-disciplinary arts centres, heritage and museum facilities and structures, the delivery of arts, heritage and museum public programming and events, volunteer program development, audience development, and exhibits and research.
You are responsible for the design, development, implementation and supervision of cultural development projects (dance, drama, music, literary, visual and media arts) with children, youth, adults and seniors that will accomplish the goals and objectives of Community Arts + Social Engagement. You identify and maintain effective partnerships to ensure that program strategies are fulfilled and provide theoretical, technical and strategic multi-disciplinary arts advice and referral to city staff, members of the arts community and others. You also participate in the hiring of summer staff and art instructors, supervise and evaluate interns and summer students, and provide orientation to and evaluate contracted artist instructors.
The focus for these positions will be Community Arts , Social Engagement programs and projects, such as #ottmusic, the Arts Animation program, I Love to Dance, and Young at Art.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year year university degree in Fine or Applied Arts, Music, Drama Literature, Arts Education, Art History or Community Arts
Minimum of 2 years of related experience in at least two fields of arts practice, for example visual art and music or drama and literature, teaching, project management and working with people with disabilities in a recreational/social setting
