      In this dynamic position, you'll:

      • Lead and Inspire: Organize engaging substance abuse prevention activities and educational programs that resonate with youth and families.
      • Foster Community Partnerships: Collaborate with local schools, businesses, and agencies to create a supportive network promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
      • Manage Program Operations: Coordinate confidential drug testing, monitor compliance, and maintain accurate records to ensure program integrity.
      • Promote Healthy Choices: Develop recognition systems and incentives that celebrate and encourage participants' commitment to staying drug-free.
      • Serve as a Role Model: Exemplify the values of the D-FY program, inspiring youth through your dedication and professionalism.


      Coordinates the Drug Free Youth (D-FY) program for youth and families wanting to maintain a drug free lifestyle. Plan, organize, and coordinate substance abuse prevention activities and develop and maintain professional relationships with applicable area agencies, businesses, and schools for the implementation of the program. Responsible for coordinating drug tests and monitoring results to ensure member compliance with program parameters. Provides educational awareness and promotes the health benefits of a drug free lifestyle. Supports participants to maintain program attendance. Work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation or their designee.
      • Participates in prevention activities, presentations, educational programs, events, membership drives, testing dates, and applicable meetings as scheduled.
      • Schedules outsourced drug testing dates, reviews testing results, and reports on compliance.
      • Develops and maintains a system of recognition and awards for youth, families and community partners supporting a drug-free lifestyle.
      • Preparescorrespondence related to program.
      • Manage record keeping, gather and analyze data, and assistsintimelypreparationofrequired programreports.
      • Assists with special projects as assigned.
      • Research outreach opportunities, disseminate program information and partner with community agencies.
      • Remain current on the latest drug and alcohol use research and trends and provide relevant resources and materials to educate participants on the hazardous effects of drug use.
      • Develop a strategic plan for community collaboration and expansion of the program.
      • Participates in regular meetings with school board members, area coalitions and youth groups to report on program outcomes, challenges, and potential areas of improvement.
      • Collaborates with school administrators, teachers, and counselors to identify opportunities for the program within local schools and supports the integration of substance abuse prevention activities into the programs.
      • Perform promotion and outreach to area youth.
      • Follows D-FY policies and procedures and adheres to rules and regulations related to program.
      • Ensures confidentiality regarding participant information, testing results and related discrepancies.
      • Adheres to HIPPA regulations.
      • Maintains effective working relationships with community agencies.
      • Utilizes computer database for participant files.
      • Conducts self professionally and treats all participants with dignity, courtesy, respect, and consideration.
      • Demonstrates exemplary behavior both on and off the job, serving as a positive role model for youth.
      • Submits marketing requests to advertise D-FY dates, registrations, or relevant information.
      • Reviews monthly membership reports and provides participant status updates as applicable.
      • Schedules random screenings and notifies supervisor of terminated members.

      • Knowledge of services and community resources offered by the City, County and other public and private agencies in the area.
      • A strong understanding of adolescent development and the unique challenges that middle and high school students face in making healthy lifestyle choices.
      • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competency, understanding the diverse backgrounds of youth and families in the community.
      • Take pride in the positive impact made on the lives of local youth by fostering a safe, supportive, and drug-free environment for them to thrive.
      • Exercise the utmost discretion in all interactions, ensuring that sensitive information regarding participants is kept confidential and secure.
      • Knowledge of principles, methods, procedures, and strategies utilized in the development of a comprehensive program designed to reduce and/or prevent drug and alcohol use by middle school and high school students.
      • Familiarity with the principles of youth development.
      • Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with program participants, the community, and other agencies.
      • Ability to work in partnership with other team members.
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and utilize good judgement.
      • Ability to comply with deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
      • Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
      • Skilled in using computers for data entry, word processing, and accounting purposes.
      • Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and agency-specific database systems to set up functions, enter data, process information, and manage files and records.
      • Ability to conduct correspondence and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports.
      • Strong ability to develop and nurture community relationships, including the ability to effectively liaise with school boards, administrators, educators, and parents to promote program goals and foster program participation.
      Education and Experience:
      • Bachelor’sdegreein health sciences, education, psychology,socialwork,orrelatedfield.
      • Two (2) years of related experience.
      • Bilingual; Spanish/English or Russian-Ukrainian/English preferred.
      • Experienceworkinginaculturallydiverseenvironment.
      (A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
      Licenses and Certifications:
      • Blood and bodily fluid pathogens certified; certification can be completed when hired.
      • PossessionoforabilitytoobtainavalidFloridadriver’slicensebydateofhire.
      • WillberequiredtosubmittoaStateandNationalCriminalBackgroundInvestigation.
