- Recruits, hires, trains and supports 2-10 part-time seasonal staff
- Recruits, hires, trains and supports as many as 200+ volunteer coaches per season, with at least 5 seasons per year.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Exceptional communication skills required.
- Helps guide and mentor coaches of various backgrounds to facilitate a YMCA approach to sports, where all kids have equal playing time regardless of ability, and winning isn’t as important as the character you demonstrate on the field/court.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y’s values.
- Liaises with various 3rd-party contractors, including photographers, school district partners, and referee associations. Works with facility partners, families, and volunteer coaches to ensure all operations are smooth.
- Manage annual budget to ensure sustainable operations.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
- Works to resolve concerns and/or conflicts between staff, participants, families, and volunteers through conflict resolution. Teach and train staff and volunteers in de-escalation techniques.
- Oversee operations, facilitation and the delivery of the Youth and Government Program
- Expanded Youth and Government Programs – branch delegations, middle school, and high school programing.
- Recruit and sustain Youth and Government volunteers.
- Build relationships with school and district level employees to support expansion of the youth and government programs within schools.

- Associates degree or equivalent education and experience.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
- Some experience working with children preferred but not required.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

- This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a desk using a computer and perform tasks that involve repetitive keyboarding and mouse usage.
- The noise level is typically moderate though the noise level at special events may be variable.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Would you like to change lives by helping kids learn the importance of teamwork, fair play, and healthy living? We’re seeking a Program Director to help us envision, plan, and deliver youth sports programs to thousands of kids each year.
Prior to any season, you’ll use your exceptional planning and communication skills to secure facilities, recruit coaches, lead trainings, and purchase/organize supplies. You’ll collaborate with our Customer Service team to ensure families receive clear and consistent communication as to the benefits of youth sports. And, you’ll ensure continued program improvement by measuring coach and participant satisfaction and working to make it all work better the next time around.
Additionally, this role will support local delegations in the Washington State Youth and Government program. You will support marketing, registration, and administrative processes for both volunteers and participants as they work through the session each year, culminating in a weeklong mock legislature at the state capital in May.
