      The University of Virginia Darden School of Business seeks a Program Manager to join its Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Entrepreneurship team. The Program Manager advances the Darden School mission of inspiring purpose-driven, innovative leaders who will change the world. This position supports the implementation of strategic initiatives to further the school’s presence and programming across Batten’s three primary focus areas of entrepreneurship, technology and thought leadership; and related topical areas such as sustainability, AI, and social innovation.

      The Program Manager helps drive the planning and execution of every major endeavor of the Batten Institute, from student-facing events and programs to faculty and alumni engagement. This position plays a vital role in helping the Institute create a lasting impact with its key stakeholders.

      This position is actively engaged in cross-enterprise teams including members of the Mayo Center for Asset Management, the Institute for Business in Society, Career Center, Communication & Marketing, Office of Research Services and others to advance the Institute’s priorities and accelerate Darden’s repute as a leader in innovation among top business schools.

      This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Batten Institute and works in close collaboration with every member of the Institute team, as well other units of Darden (and at times, UVA), including the Institute’s three Academic Directors.

      This position is based in Charlottesville, VA. Primary areas of focus for the Program Manager include:

      Stakeholder Areas of Impact:

      Students

      • Supports Darden students across all MBA formats through a portfolio of programs which are both educational and experiential. Helps project manage a diverse range of programs including: Events (e.g., Entrepreneurship Cup Launch, Darden DC Tech Connect, Southeast Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition Conference, Batten Scholars), student venture incubation (e.g., iLab Incubator, Entrepreneurs in Residence mentorship program), workshops and speaker series (e.g., Batten Presents, Tech Learning Series, Innovation Series), pitch competitions (e.g., E-Cup Concept/Discover/Launch), bootcamps and ecosystem “immersions,” webinars, and internships/fellowships (e.g., Batten Venture Internship Program, Darden Venture Fellows). These are delivered in Charlottesville, at Darden’s Sands Family Grounds in Rosslyn, VA, or in other major global ecosystems.

      • Provides logistical and operational support to Batten’s flagship student-facing initiatives of E-Cup and iLab Incubator, including facility with the tech platforms used to manage them.

      • Works to cultivate relationships with student leaders and support student club initiatives (namely the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital, Technology, and ETA clubs).

      • Integrates programming and initiatives focused on careers in startup, VC and tech with Career Center programs, offerings and approaches and systems/reporting.

      • Proactively taps alumni networks and partners with the other centers at Darden to support student cultivation of entrepreneurial mindset, venture development and career advancement.

      Faculty

      • Supports the Batten Institute’s thought leadership team as they curate and create content that brings a wider audience to faculty research in partnership with Communications & Marketing.

      • Engages select faculty through strategic planning and outreach for course speakers, conference panelists, guests, and case-writing opportunities.

      Darden Enterprise

      • Collaborates with stakeholders across the Darden enterprise, including but not limited to the aforementioned departments as well as Admissions, Finance/Financial Aid, Darden Foundation (most notably Alumni and Alumni Career Services), and the Office of Research Services.

      • Develops strong partnerships with a collaborative, team-based approach. This role has responsibilities for ensuring effective and timely coordination and communication across units supporting Batten Institute efforts at Darden and increasing the impact of such activities.

      Responsibilities of the Program Manager include:

      • Organizes and coordinates the planning, implementation, and de-briefing of projects, programs, and conferences/events. As such, serves as the operational backbone for the Batten Institute.

      • Coordinates Batten initiatives that stretch across Darden including in curricular and co-curricular offerings, research and thought leadership, and engagement with external stakeholders. Helps manage team resources in these areas on a project-by-project basis.

      • Implements ongoing management of communication channels and outreach for prospective and current students regarding Darden as a school for innovators such as enhancing and maintaining a web presence, social media, and current student intranet and other internal collateral.

      • Partners with the Darden Advancement/Alumni team and Dean’s Office as needed.

      • Amplifies support for student clubs and events.

      • Provides a centralized resource for tech professionals, entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial investors, would-be MBAs, alumni, and cross-Grounds partners to contact and connect with Darden.

      • Leads new focus areas for the Batten Institute on: Measuring the Institute’s impact with data; outbound marketing via cross-channel campaigns; and/or managing the process for Darden’s participation in Entrepreneurship specialty rankings.

      Education and Professional Experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of relevant experience required.

      • Exhibits growth mindset, detail orientation, and ability to overcome barriers and inertia with a positive and proactive attitude.

      • Ability to be a collaborative team player who can work and communicate effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and other important Darden enterprise stakeholders.

      • Demonstrated results for achieving metrics-driven goals through systemic development with educational or similar organizations.

      • Ability to coordinate the activities of multiple parties to achieve desired objectives.

      • Ability to manage strategic initiatives and ensure successful execution against agreed-on plans and objectives, at times singlehandedly.

      • Ability to guide institutional action in the face of a complex matrixed organization.

      • Ability to translate thoughts and directives from several areas into a cohesive plan of action.

      • Ability to drive results, without direct hierarchical control and amidst occasional ambiguity.

      • Ability to manage budget processes and procedures.

      • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

      • Belief in the mission of the Batten Institute, the Darden School, and passion for the University of Virginia.
