- Supervisory experience and motivational techniques. Working knowledge of corporate human resource policies, practices and collective agreements related to managing in a unionized environment, including hiring, dismissal, performance management and the grievance procedure;
- Financial management practices and budget processes;
- Methods used to deal with the media in a professional manner;
- Standards specific to specialty area;
- Equipment operation specific to specialty area;
- Computer applications, including MS Office, SAP, Electronic Resident Care Information System;
- Must be familiar with applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staffing accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.

JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of Long Term Care Services is to provide resident care based on the needs of individuals, as determined by medical, nursing, functional and psychosocial assessments, and on each resident’s expressed needs. The care provided in each Home includes specialized, restorative, supportive and palliative care for persons with dementia, disabilities and health problems who cannot live independently in their homes, and whose needs cannot be met in the community.
You are responsible for the planning, co-ordinated development, management and implementation of long term care home nursing and personal care activities, programs, services and initiatives consistent with departmental strategic direction and vision and in accordance with provincial long term care standards are legislated requirements; provide professional leadership and coordination in the planning, implementation, and administration of long term care policies and programs for the unit; and responsible for establishing and maintaining positive client relationships with internal and external management and stakeholders.
You liaise with the Community Care Access Centre and Compliance Advisors, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the Ontario College of Nurses and long term care homes and community hospitals to clarify nursing standards and practices, coordinate admissions with regard to the resident’s level of care and health needs, and provide expert advice on nursing, levels of care, practices and policies, etc. You also develop and monitor operating budgets and manage the human resources of the Resident Care or Personal Care unit, including hiring, termination, performance management and discipline of staff as necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing administration in a long term care setting with 2 years of experience in the management of human resources and/or external contract resources, and management of operating and capital budgets, preferably in a municipal setting.
