  About the Role

  The Program Manager role for SFU's Surrey Co-op Programs is pivotal in advancing the department's mission of fostering meaningful connections between students and employers in the SEE, MSE & SOSY and SIAT disciplines. The primary purpose is to lead co-op program development, refine job search curriculum guidelines, and actively recruit a diverse range of employers, ensuring valuable education-related employment opportunities for students. This role significantly contributes to the department's overarching goals by enhancing the quality of experiential learning and strengthening ties with the professional community.

  Qualifications

  Master's degree in a related discipline and five years' related experience which includes experience in work integrated learning program development, curriculum program development, instructional design, web-based teaching and learning, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Program Management Expertise:
    • Demonstrated experience in managing the development, enhancement, and implementation of program curriculum, guidelines, and procedures.
    • Proven ability to oversee operational activities, strategic planning, and operational reviews for Cooperative Education programs.
  • Employer Engagement and Recruitment:
    • Successful track record in actively recruiting private and public sector employers to provide quality education-related employment opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Ability to review employer requirements and objectives, designing beneficial work term opportunities for both employers and students.
  • Team Leadership and Supervision:
    • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including recruitment, supervision, evaluation, and management of Co-op program staff.
    • Ability to provide program guidance and management for staff on Co-op program, student, employer, and Faculty requirements.
  • Budget Management:
    • Proven experience in managing annual operating budgets, including forecasting, fiscal year planning, and monitoring reconciliation of budgetary items for a Co-op program.
  • Student Support and Career Development:
    • Expertise in providing program guidance on co-op student qualifications, employability skills, and academic/employment requirements.
    • Ability to monitor student performance and learning experiences, offering guidance to resolve issues during work terms and facilitating career preparation workshops.
